OUR FIRST 250 MEMBERS ON THE WAY TO DISCOVERING THEIR DREAMS

We are so grateful to be able to share with all of you the great things that have been happening in our Club in the past 2 months.

With the arrival of our full-time Clinical Psychologist we have finally completed our highly motivated and committed team of staff members and were able to increase the number of Kids attending to 250.

Having attended the Club regularly since January we have seen an important and positive change in our Kids.

BEHAVIOURAL CHANGES OBSERVED

Growing up in one of the most violent areas of Mexico our Kids have learnt to control their aggressive behaviour and are becoming more and more kind and caring individuals that treat their guides and fellow Club kids with more respect.

Building a feeling of confidence and trust in their guides has enabled our Kids to open up more and more each day. They are finally able to share their problems and fears with staff members that are highly trained to help them as much as possible.

FUTURE ATHLETES AND ARTISTS

Through programmes such as Yoga, Art and Theatre sessions they are able to connect to their emotions and learn to express themselves in a safe environment.

Every day their horizon is broadened in the Club and the Kids are becoming more and more aware of the vast opportunities that lie ahead of them attending the Club.

We are all very proud of one of our Girls that came second in the National Club de Niños y Niñas Art Competition with her beautiful drawing of “Why do I love my Club”.

Our athletics team, in a very short period of time, has managed to increase their fitness levels and speed to such an extent that the team was invited to participate in a Fundraising Run next month raising money for their own Club in the process.

GIRLS AS FUTURE LEADERS

On the 20th of May, 6 of our girls were invited to attend the National Forbes Conference for Powerful Women. They all got the chance to stand on the stage in front of hundreds of top female business leaders. The girls had all prepared wonderful speeches telling everyone attending the conference why they, coming out of one of the most dangerous communities in Mexico, are powerful girls ready to make a change in their community and country.

These 6 girls represent the positive change that has taken place in the Club and the community. Suddenly these 250 kids have something to hope for in their lives.

They can all become great at whatever they choose to become.

And with your continuous generous help you can make it possible that in June we can accept the next 200 kids into our Club. To continue changing a community as a whole into one of hope and success.

Grand Inauguration of Club de Ninos y Ninas

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

February 15, 2019 marked a long-anticipated day for the Club de Niños y Niñas CDMX & Estado de México with the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new state-of-the-art Club Tecamac/Ecatepec. Boys and girls from the Club, community representatives, member families, donors and strategic partners were witnesses to a dream becoming a reality: a safe haven for the children of Tecamac/Ecatepec, one of the most violent and problematic communities in Mexico.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of many, we were able to open doors to bright futures to our first 200 members mid-January and will eventually serve 2000 children in a community marred by marred by violence, a high incidence of drug abuse, and a lack of economic opportunities. Children between the ages of 6-18 years old now have a safe place to learn and grow and participate in fun afterschool activities when school is out. The mission of the Club is to enable young people, especially those that need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

Rick Goings, Executive Chairmann TupperwareBrands, Alejandro Fernandez, Secretary of Education, Enrique Jacob, Secretary of Economic Development, Mariela Gutierrez, Mayor of Tecamac; the National Club de Niños y Niñas President Mauricio Mier and members of the Executive Committee and local board were honored guests at the event.

The Club includes a 4500m2 construction offering several buildings that house educational rooms, a library, arts and music studios, dance and martial arts center, teen center, an outdoor theater, multipurpose courts, a full-sized gym and soccer field. Capital campaign leaders began raising funds for the new Club in 2016, with the goal of serving as many vulnerable kids, often, and with maximum impact.

THE FIRST 200 MEMBERS JOINED JANUARY 16

We are so excited to start this new chapter!

Through afterschool activities including homework help, sports, the arts, , character and leadership building as well as targeted youth programs our Club mentors have started engaging our newest members to discover their talents, lead healthy lifestyles and avoid risky behaviors. Clubs play an important role in providing a safe space to exercise, compete in team sports and establish lifelong friendships. Members are encouraged to graduate from ‘preparatoria’ with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.

As we initiate operations, we continue to rely on your support to help equip the Club with furniture and materials. Please consider donating TODAY.

First children to start programming in Jan 2019

We are happy you are checking in to read our second report. A lot has happened since September.

The construction crew is adding the final touches at the newly constructed Club site in Tecamac/Ecatepec, a save and secure Club that will offer afterschool programming to a maximum of 2000 children. The civil works of all three buildings have concluded, we completed the water proofing, started the landscaping, the cabling is almost finalized and we will add the roof to the full-sized gym in the next two weeks.

Along side our construction efforts we have continued our community campaign engaging our stake holders in the design of programming and other activities. One such example was the KaBOOM design day where  the kids let their imaginations run wild as they gave concrete design input to the central play space of our Club. It was their time to dream beyond the horizon, flex their creativity, and have an immediate, tangible impact on the course of the project.

The parents came together to form building committees to prepare the KaBOOM! Construction Day on December 8 when the whole community will come together to build the playground they helped design with their own hands. We are ready!

Just in time for the grand opening in January 2019 when we will receive the first members. 260 members will start on January 15 and we will gradually increase the numbers over the next months.

During the month of September, we helped interested families fill out registration forms to join the initial group of members. More than 300 families filled out the forms, many of them seeking a space for several of their children. For us it was an important step in getting to know our future families and the stories they share.

Meet Jorge Armado: He is six years old, lives in Tecamac just minutes from the Club; his mom works at a hair salon nearby. Every afternoon Jorge spends with his mother at the salon since there is no save place for him or his friends to stay when school is out. Jorge is very energetic, full of ideas; he is extroverted and loves sports. His family describe him as a “very happy and joyful kid”.

Although he is only in First grade, he already has big dreams for his future. You can help Jorge to be inspired, have fun and be surrounded by loving and caring adults in a save atmosphere. With your support through our ‘Great Futures Program’ you will help Jorge and many other of our local youths become successful, healthy and confident persons. At the same time, the affordable opportunity Jorge gets thanks to the Club’s "Great Futures Program" means his mother can go to work every day and provide for her family.

Your sponsorship  will provide one child with a safe place to have fun, learn and grow, to participate in life-enhancing programs, to eat a healthy meal and be surrounded and guided by caring mentors and staff.

CEMEFI accredits Club de Niños y Niñas CDMX & Estado de México as an institutional and transparent organization!

We are proud to have reached this milestone of receiving CEMEFI accreditation confirming the constant dedication to our organizations’ transparency and accountability to our stake holders. The Mexican Center for Philanthropy currently has more than 700 partners which work to promote civic participation in Mexico. We continue to strive for excellence in what we do.
