5th Report on Carbon Free Water
By Azeem Christopher - Program Coordinator
Thank you very much for your support and donations. As mentioned in the previous reports AWARD Pakistan has taken an initiative to start raising funds for the installation of hand pumps and water wells. In its first phase, 3 water wells and 1 hand pump will be installed in the 4 out of 6 rural areas of Balakot, District Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhaw with the support of the local community. So far 3 water wells and 1 water hand-pump has been successfully installed and rest are under development. It is been found with the study that the water wells are much more effective than the hand pumps as it provides more amount of water than an average hand pump. Therefore due to the requests from the people AWARD Pakistan installed 3 water wells in the 3 areas of Balakot.
AWARD Pakistan’s Regional Coordinator Mr Mustafa is regularly visiting the 4 areas (Jageer and Grang Maidaan, Shawaal Maidaan and Baisiyaan). The communities are happy and they are using the water resource responsibly . Mr. Mustafa is in coordination with the local committees and guiding them how to take care of the wells and the handpumps. The committees are putting their efforts to engage and support the communities and have promised to protect the project at any cost.Incase of any maintainence the communities and committees contribute and deal with the issue collectively.
One of the beneficiaries presented his views as "A singinficant decrease has been noticed in the diseases during the last couple of months among the children. The water is fresh and healthy and is keeping us safe.We thank AWARD Pakistan from the core of our hearts.
It has also been mentioned in the previous reports that an average cost of digging water well and installing a hand pump on mountainous area is 5 to 6 times higher than an average installation in Punjab and other plain areas of Pakistan.More Wells are required in the region to give more people access to safe drinking water.
We request all our donors and supporters to support us in the cause to provide children and women (living on the mountains), an access to the carbon-free water.

Thank you for all your support and donations. Our project "A Training Center to Support 400 Women Every Year" has managed to raise an amount of $1,525 since it has been uploaded. We would also like to thank the donors who have supported us during the 2 matching campaigns in the month of march.
We also want to bring this into your notice that the project is still far behind from its initial target. To start an initial phase of construction, the project should be able to raise an initial amount of $10,000 atleast. We are trying our best to reach this initial amountso that the contractors should start working on it.For this purpose we are trying to engage our donors as much as we can.
It is worth mentioning that the approved map for the project has been updated and it will be uploaded in this report. Once again we thank you for all your support and donations and request you to please help us to complete our cause.
