COOL SUMMER VIBES AT WORLD HEART BEAT

Here at the World Heart Beat Music Academy, we have been delighted to be able to open our students up to some very different experiences in the run up to summer...

In early June, we welcomed two of Japan's leading Jazz musicians to the Academy for an exclusive performance showcasing the beautiful, lyrical pianist Sumire Kuribayashi and master double bassist Hideaki Kanazawa.  It was a wonderful, relaxed evening session for all to enjoy!

Then on 28 June, we had a very special event where our students were invited to perform at the London Residence of the US Ambassador for their annual US Independence Day Celebrations, kindly hosted by the US Ambassador himself.  It was a wonderful experience including full band performances by some of our older students to entertain the huge crowds that had been invited but with a special Flash Mob performance by our superb New Orleans Second Line Band - this certainly got the crowds going!

Mid-July gave us two more super evenings back at the Academy.  The first with the supreme jazz pianist, Julian Joseph, a towering figure in contemporary jazz, signing his new book Music of Initiative - a deeply inspiring work in which Julian shares his insight into the philosophy and practice of jazz performance.  Some fine conversation and jazz performances rounded things off nicely!

The second was another very cool evening with Alex Heffes, the highly successful Hollywood film composer, who was able to join us to work with some of our students.  Following the workshop, family and friends were invited to come along for a fascinating hour of informal chat, to hear Alex himself perform and to hear him play with our young musicians.

Finally last week saw more of our students at a photo shoot, led by a famous music industry photographer, for the big time American jazz saxophonist, composer, producer and band leader, Kamasi Washington, who was performing in London last week.  Quite an afternoon.

World Heart Beat thank you once again for your support for our Academy and to making all these special events available to some very dedicated and very promising young musicians of the future.

World Heart Beat Music Academy

Jazz Performance at the Battersea Circus Garden
Jazz Performance at the Battersea Circus Garden

It’s been a wonderful few weeks here at World Heart Beat filled with amazing jazz performances!

We’ve just had our first ever concert in a Circus Tent - performing as part of the Wandsworth Arts Fringe! There were 3 sets – the World Heart Beat 2nd Line New Orleans band opened the evening with outstanding jazz repertoire. This was followed by the newly established WHB Rock Band led by Scipio Mosley and Sian Kelly. The evening closed with the very cool band of one of our longstanding students. It was everything we expected and much more! The students had a wonderful evening and we enjoyed being part of the festival.

Our work is only possible through the kind donations and support from our incredible donors. On Thursday 31 May we are having a special lunchtime performance at London’s legendary Jazz Club Ronnie Scott’s. As well as a very exciting opportunity for our students to perform at one of the world’s most famous jazz clubs, this concert is also a unique opportunity for us to meet all our amazing supporters. We know we have very supportive donors through Global Giving and it would be wonderful if some of you could come!

The day after our Ronnie Scott’s performance, we will be joining the Free Friday Music event at The Royal Albert Hall. The public will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious Italian meal at the Verdi Italian Kitchen by the sound of great jazz. Please see the following link for further details:

This coming Saturday 12 May, we are hosting the World Heart Beat Open Day – an afternoon of free taster sessions and live music performance at the Academy. Children between the ages of 5-12 will have the chance to try a range of instruments for free as part of the Wandsworth Arts Fringe Programme. This will be a marvellous opportunity for us to meet new students and their families and we very much hope to engage more students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

We at World Heart Beat are so grateful for the superb support we continue to receive from our supporters here on the GlobalGiving's website. Thank you, we really appreciate it!
