More university acceptance letters!

Previously, we reported that three of the 10 students who graduated from high school in 2019 had started university. Six of the seven remaining students will continue their education soon!

Carolyn chose to repeat high school to improve her exam scores and increase her chances of being accepted to university.

Falida will study Nutrition at a local training institution that works to reduce poverty among underprivileged youth by equipping them with the skills and knowledge to sustainably develop the rural communities of Malawi.

Haswell, Hastings, Biziwick, and Aubrey were selected to attend university to study for their Bachelor's Degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics and Telecom Engineering, Nursing and Midwifery, and Biomedical Engineering, respectively.

The tenth and final student is waiting to hear back about a few applications and continues to apply to higher education institutions in Malawi.

Shepherd, Dyson, & Chisomo Started University!

Three of the 10 students who graduated in 2019 started university in February; namely Shepherd, Dyson, and Chisomo! They are studying for their Bachelor's of Social Sciences, Environmental Management, and Food Security and Nutrition, respectively.

We expect four more students from the current cohort to receive acceptance letters in April. The remaining three students continue to apply with support from our consultant in Phalombe. Our highest priority right now is ensuring that these students will continue their education at a higher education institution.

While the seven students eagerly wait to receive their acceptance letters, several are working as part-time teachers at local primary schools.

Thank you for your support!

University Applications!

Olive, Biziwick, Hastings, Dyson, Aubrey, Carolyn, Haswell, Falida, Chisomo, and Shepherd have started applying to universities in Malawi!

Because all are first generation college students, they need assistance navigating the application process. EKARI's consultant in Phalombe supports the students by first assessing their exam scores and professional interests. Based on this assessment, the consultant then recommends to each student which accredited universities would be the best for him/her to apply to. The consultant then sits with each student and helps him/her complete the applications. EKARI covers the application fees and postage costs. Students are in the process of applying to three to five colleges each. The students will start university in 2020.

Thank you!
