Financially Empowering Wheelers in Egypt

Mohamed at his New Job
Mohamed at his New Job

Dear Alhassan donors, supporters and believers,

Our “Source of Income” project branches into 3 subprojects: funding small projects, occupational training and employment and networking

Through these three subprojects, we were able to achieve financial independence to our beneficiaries; enable them to be bread earners NOT a burden.

We’re rapidly recovering from the recent COVID-19 crises and we’re back on track, delivering services and implementing projects to our beneficiaries. Thanks to your generous donations we were able to serve 19 beneficiaries starting August 2020 till now. We periodically (every 3 months) monitor and document the projects’ progress then we take a random sample annually to generate an impact analysis.

Last year, we achieved an astonishing success rate of 91%, it’s shown in details in the figure below. We deal with the negative impact according to each case:

1-     In case of death: projects are left for the deceased’s family.

2-     In case of failure or trouble: we provide technical support and help beneficiaries select another project type that would suit their conditions better.

We want to share one of our inspiring stories that achieved effective financial independence. Mohamed, a 33-years-old guy who has polio, was graduated from the Faculty of Commerce in 2012. After his graduation, he wanted to be a bread earner and be financially independent but couldn’t find any jobs. He opened a clothing store instead while still seeking another job. We were able to get Mohamed hired as a customer services representative in one of Egypt’s most reputable banks.

We’re currently in the process of partnering with the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity. This partnership aims to financially empower 150 wheelchair users in Egypt, men and women aged 18 – 55 years old.

We would like to thank each and every one of you for your support. We urge you to continue supporting our cause and stay our enthusiastic donor through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation which will help to secure more funds to help wheelchair users in Egypt be financially independent.

If you have any job opportunities or know someone who can help with employment please don’t hesitate to contact us at source.income@alhassan-fdn.org

Live Videos to Raise Awareness

Life on Wheels - Arabic Edition
Life on Wheels - Arabic Edition

Dear Alhassan donors, supporters and believers,

Thank you for donating to “Social Awareness about Differently Abled in Egypt” project. This project is mainly what our mission and vision are about. We believe that by changing the mentality of people and how they perceive physically-challenged people, we will spend less time and effort demanding wheelchair users’ basic human rights; it’ll be a given to consider their needs.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve suspended our quarterly orientation gatherings to ensure the safety of our beneficiaries and staff and we tried to find an alternative way to stay in touch with our beneficiaries and introduce new members to our services; consequently, we:

  1. Started a series of live videos on our facebook page. Each one of these live videos discusses a chapter of Gary Karp’s “Life on Wheels”. Life on Wheels is primarily a guidebook for those with mobility issues, offering practical information on how to:
  • Adapt your home
  • Choose a wheelchair
  • Start a family
  • Take care of your body and much more!
  1. Make weekly videos that explain each of our projects and sub-projects and their eligibility criteria.

These videos raise the awareness of abled people and physically challenged people alike. We’re constantly trying to foster “I can do!” attitude in our beneficiaries whilst changing the way abled people see the differently abled people through showing examples of active and accomplished challenged people and showing how a successful entity like Alhassan Foundation is mostly operated by wheelchair users and that we don’t just use empty slogans.

Thank you dear donors for your donations; your support is what enables us in our mission so we urge you to continue supporting our cause and stay loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help kids on wheelchair in Egypt be more confident and accomplished.

Alhassan Passionate Athletes

Mohamed - Swimming Champ
Mohamed - Swimming Champ

Dear Alhassan Foundation’s friends, believers and supporters,

Hope you’re all safe and sound.

Sports and Arts project is one of our core projects; it offers an outlet for wheelchair users to socialize and learn new skills while maintaining their physical and mental health.

Thanks to your generous donations and support during the past 3 years, we were able to serve a total of 178 beneficiaries – males and females of all age groups – throughout Egypt in our Sports and Arts project and we scored a total of 290 medals!

The sports and arts activities are currently very limited due to regulations enforced after the COVID-19 crises. Some of our athletes are trying very hard to find an alternative to overcome this by seeking individual trainings and/or practice their daily workout at home to stay healthy and in shape and encourage others to do the same. Here’s a video of Mohamed, our young champion, enjoying his time in pool and doing what he loves the most, swimming, after spending months away from it during quarantine

We currently have a waiting list of all beneficiaries who are interested in pursuing a new hobby and leading an active life. We will gradually resume our activities – within allowed – taking all procedures and measures to ensure the safety of our staff and beneficiaries.

Alhassan employees are now working at full-power from office in order to serve all beneficiaries whom were assigned to our various projects during quarantine.

We would like to thank every one of you for your support. We urge you to continue supporting our cause and staying loyal donors to our cause through subscribing to a monthly recurring donation option. That will help wheelchair users in Egypt be more confident and accomplished. Please visit our Facebook page to read other success stories:
