Together we can make it happen!

In recent times, Fundación Pro Niños has generated strategies that increase the protective factors of children and teenagers at risk, thereby reducing their risk of connecting with street life practices that harm them and become an obstacle for their right to a decent life. .

One of these strategies was to generate workshops to reduce violence in school spaces at secondary school level. During the workshops, it was possible to detect that more than 70% of the teenagers recognize that their acts are violent; however, they do not consider it feasible to modify their behaviors since this would leave them in conditions of vulnerability to their environment.

We decided to pause the work in schools to strengthen the analysis and a methodology that allow a significant impact on the collective construction of a culture of peace. For this reason, during this year we only gave the workshop “The relationship between emotions with the use of violence” in high school #270, Celestino Gorostiza.

We cover topics such as:

  • Joy, its utility and risk.
  • Anger, its utility and risk.
  • Fear, its utility and risk.
  • Sadness, its usefulness and risk.
  • How can I regulate my emotion?

The objective of this workshop was to develop and strengthen cognitive skills by facilitating problem solving and decision making in the social environment.

With this 17-session workshop, we were able to sensitize 63 students about violence, to recognize that it is learned and that it is possible to modify behaviors related to it.

We also manage to establish safer and more favorable interactions between students through the application of various emotional regulation techniques.

“ we addressed the issue of violence prevention through workshops that favored the development of life skills as a fundamental basis for prevention. The participation of the students was very valuable. We create development and evaluation framing strategies to determine the level of knowledge about the topics that were developed in the workshop. At the beginning, it was detected that violence was exerted between peers in the same classroom and even towards the speakers; at the end of the workshop this behavior was reduced.

The participation of the school authorities was essential for the development of the workshops. They recognize that working together is the most important factor to reduce the rates of violence experienced by students in the different areas in which they develop.


The experience of preventive work with secondary school students is necessary to identify and reduce violent practices and to be able to strengthen those skills that allow them to have healthier and safer interactions. "

Working during the pandemic

The current pandemic has become a fact of historical proportions, not only for Mexico, but for the whole world. One of its most serious impacts is the one it has on the lives of children and adolescents in conditions of vulnerability, and specifically on their access to and permanence in school, which can seriously affect their development and limit their opportunities in adult life. Our mission is to provide our beneficiaries with the necessary resources to access the educational services available in the “new normal". 


Our interventions will be based on supporting children and adolescents in their carrying out of school procedures and paperwork, as well as in their school tasks, through coaching sessions and distance learning support groups on the one hand—and through promoting in them the development of skills and competencies that enhance learning, school performance and personal development on the other. Financial support and materials necessary to carry out these activities will be provided, as well as training and technological equipment for distance education.


One of the main educational challenges that Mexico faces today is social-educational inequalities. The CONEVAL (National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy) has warned that half of the population does not have the conditions necessary to access education in quarantine and post-quarantine scenarios. And on the other hand, the unemployment generated by the quarantine has caused parents or guardians who participate in Pro Niños programs not to have the economic means to provide the necessary tools and materials for their children to continue with their school education. 


The main factors that hinder access to the right to education for the children and adolescents served by Pro Niños are: a distance learning situation; the absence of technological resources in their homes; and the lack of economic resources for school supplies, food or the creation of an adequate space in which to take classes. This has led us to double our interventions for education for the 2020-2021 school term. 



At Fundación Pro Niños we want to guarantee the right to education of children and adolescents in vulnerable conditions through creating opportunities for them to have a quality education; strengthening their cognitive, social and emotional skills; and providing them with educational support, school supplies, didactic material, computer training in computers and school platforms, remedial courses, and technological equipment.

We continue working for your rights

It is true that we continue with the quarantine, but we must not forget our work with people on the street. Currently the Foundation continues to have the accompaniment and of course providing food and items to protect itself from COVID-19. The pantries are delivered every 3 weeks and there is a role of guards carried out by the educational area. An educator delivers at the facilities and the Pro Niños driver delivers at homes. We appreciate the support of our donor friends and for their great solidarity Fundación Pro Niños. “During these times we face several challenges: the people who are on the streets have increased, as well as their needs. Adapting to this diversity of needs has allowed us to improve our processes and more effectively serve adolescent girls and boys and their families who are disadvantaged and socially vulnerable, to accompany them in the construction of roads that favor a life off the streets. The coordinated work both inside and outside the foundation made it possible to guarantee the free exercise of the rights of this population, for example: the right to identity, the right to play (which is one of the pillars of our work), the right to a decent life and health. The commitment and genuine interest of educators to face the vicissitudes that the Street shows us are the basis for being able to provide a warm and effective attention. During 2019, training on issues of violence and addictions allowed us to broaden our view of the phenomenon of street life and have more tools to improve our educational practices.
