Safe & Clean Solar Light in the Mountains of Nepal

Thanks to your support, Karuna-Shechen is bringing light to remote mountain villages in Nepal that have been without electricity – until now!

The Chepangs and Tamangs are ethnic groups who live in remote, mountainous areas that are without electricity. In the village homes, dangerous karosene lamps provide the only source of light, making it difficult for villagers to do chores and for children to do homework after dark.

In December, 2018, Karuna-Shechen's solar technicians travelled to the remote Makwanpur district to bring light to Chepang and Tamang villages.100 solar home lighting sets were distributed and installed by our trained solar technicians, replacing dangerous kerosene lanterns with clean, renewable energy.

We are so grateful for your role in bringing light to these villages in Nepal! Below are pictures of the distribution and installation you helped make possible!

If you have not done so already, please sign up HERE for our newsletter to keep up to date on how we’re making a difference, together.

On behalf of everyone at Karuna-Shechen and the villagers we have helped, together, thank you!

We're Turning the Lights On In Nepal!

300 homes in remote Nepalese villages have light!

So far this year, we have provided training for solar technicians and installed solar electricity sets that are changing lives in some of the most remote and underserved villages of Nepal.

Disconnected from electricity sources, villagers in remote regions typically live in relative darkness, using dangerous kerosene lamps to shed dim light so mothers can cook and children can do homework. By equipping 300 homes with solar electricity sets, we are improving the air quality, reducing the danger and damage from kerosene, and providing a better quality of life for families. Thank you for supporting this important project!

We will continue to update you on the progress and results. In the meantime, Karuna-Shechen is launching a special campaign to teach yoga skills to 1,000 children in need in India. It is a simple & sustainable way to engage young minds and boost their potential! Please see our project page for more information and to help support this altruistic project!

Thank you for reaching out across the globe to support our “Bring Light to Isolated Villagers in Nepal” project & for spreading the word about our new initiative: Teach Yoga to Village Children in India

Bearers of Light in Nepal

The 12 women from Nepal who successfully completed Karuna-Shechen’s Solar Electrification Training this spring have already installed more than 100 solar electricity sets!

Earlier this year, thanks to your support, women from six remote, underserved villages travelled by bus to Kathmandu, where they spent two full weeks learning about electricity and solar panels, as well as how to use different tools and repair solar sets. They learned skills, gained confidence, and each one received her certification.

Since the training, these twelve women have been installing solar electricity in their villages — 100 sets installed so far!

Below are pictures of their journey: from their training to the distribution and installation of the first solar sets in the small village of Khopachangu.

With each installation, the quality of life of the villages as a whole improves, with women actively helping their communities become healthier and stronger.

We are so grateful for your role in bringing light to remote villages in Nepal! If you have not done so already, please sign up HERE for our newsletter to keep up to date on how we’re making a difference, together.
