Happy New Year from FAME, Inc.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our mission!
As we begin a New Year, we are inspired by your contributions, empowering us to propel our shared vision of Inspiring Career Confidence, in a challenging year for everyone.
Our 2020 STEMulate® Change Virtual Summer Session had a dynamic theme, “I Am The Solution,” empowering youth to invoke their confidence to create change. Students learned about social justice and discovered their own courageous voice to become the solution and more. Each day students engaged in common core curricula that focused on STEM and entrepreneurship.
STEMulate® Change celebrated its 4th year of operations, in a year when students were eager to engage with their colleagues. We hope you will take a look at the video compilation developed by our students, signifying the resilience and hope in our youth, at https://youtu.be/oLFn-7vnF0c.
We look forward to continuing this great work with you in the year to come!
Wishing you a healthy, safe and incredible New Year,
The FAME, Inc. Team
About this Project:
STEMulate Change is a nationally-recognized STEM education program designed to ignite interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) learning and careers among at-risk youth ages 9-18. STEMulate Change is provided as an afterschool and summer program at community centers and schools serving low-to-moderate income and minority youth. The curriculum is uniquely based around American and global STEM icons who the students can relate to (i.e., women or minorities).
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
We cannot thank you enough for your generosity, especially at this time. Your contribution continues to spark innovation and creativity among our students, the next generation of STEM leaders and change-makers.
Throughout this public health crisis, our team of leaders and educators continue to work tirelessly to partner with the school districts in our communities, and address STEM related needs. With your support, our Motivate STEM Leaders program ignited the interest of students across the state to see themselves as Scientists, Technicians, Engineers and Mathematicians.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM
We also hosted a Literacy Speaker Series, features dynamic speakers which included Todd Lyght, former NFL football player and football coach at Notre Dame, and Dr. Nicola La Monica, Senior Director of Infectious Disease Scientific Innovation, Janssen. Expanding our virtual platform also allowed for greater participation of students in other states.
FAME, Inc. could not have done this without you and express our deepest gratitude for your support!
Thank you for all you do to empower our shared mission!
With deepest gratitude,
Donald L. Baker, II
Chief Executive Officer
Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering, Inc.’s (FAME, Inc.) STEMulate® Change Outreach Initiative has adapted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Traditionally, participating students in grades 4, 5, and 6 meet in-person for six consecutive weeks of summer programming from Monday to Thursday; 8am – 3pm. Given the impacts of COVID-19, the 2020 summer session for all FAME, Inc. students (grades 4-12) is being conducted virtually.
FAME, Inc.’s digital learning began on Monday, June 22nd and will continue until Thursday, July 30th. Participating students were able to collect packets of supplies and materials that will be used during the course of the summer session. Lessons are administered via FAME, Inc.’s certified teaching faculty and cover a variety of STEM subject areas in addition to the study of mood and tone. On Monday, July 6th FAME, Inc. 4th graders explored how mood and tone are critical when writing literature and song lyrics. The class will take this knowledge and apply it to the mood B.B. King tried to convey within his song lyrics. To date, all STEMulate® Change students have participated via the Zoom Education Platform!
