Congratulations to Karen Arce Rojas, of 4 Patas de Puro Amor, for a successful adoption event at the fairgrounds in San Ramon. This local rescue group routinely fosters litters born on the streets (most recently under a bench at the bus depot) or abandoned in coffee fields. Sixteen puppies and five kittens born homeless were adopted, and the new owners all signed contracts to spay or neuter their pets when they're old enough (with partial financial assistance from the Animal Welfare Committee).
The event included a costume contest and prizes donated by businesses in the community. Check out the photos on our blog page, including a Chihuaha in a helmet and goggles ready to accompany its burly owner on a motorcyle!
On July 30th 4 Patas de Puro Amor, a local animal welfare group run entirely by Costa Ricans, conducted a spay/neuter clinic in San Ramon paid for with donations to Animal Welfare through Global Giving. The barrio where the clinic was held is extremely poor - some of the people's homes are made from cardboard - and the residents were very appreciative. Forty dogs and cats were spayed or neutered at the amazing price of $14 each, and we would like to go back to the same barrio for another clinic as more donations are raised.
Heartfelt thanks to our donors for making what we do possible. This clinic would not have been held without your generous contributions.

We've Rescued 22 Puppies in Three Days
By Michele Gawenka - Project Leader
Found in a box in a coffee field.
The past three days have been very hard on our resources, with TWENTY-TWO puppies coming into rescue. Six were found in a box in a coffee field, soaking wet. Nine were orphaned when their mother was poisoned. Three were found in the trash (one did not survive). Four were found on the street with their starving mother. We need to provide formula, puppy food, and veterinary care in the upcoming weeks. This is all done in foster homes by people donating their time and love. Please help us with a contribution if you possibly can...each and every donation makes a difference in a life.
