Mission

We believe literacy at the primary school level is the most cost-effective investment in the fight against poverty and inequality that results from poor educational foundations that create learning backlogs and exacerbate unequal access to opportunity. Our vision is that all children will leave primary school literate and enjoying reading. We engage and motivate the literate adult population in South Africa, enabling them to pass on their literacy skills to the next generation. Our work seeks to confront the severe levels of illiteracy that have plagued efforts to improve employability, reduce poverty and inequality and strengthen democracy in practice in South Africa.
