The school year 2019-2020 closed end of July, 2 months later than normal due to teh COVID 19.

The results of the LAP to national exam was very good for the "Brevet d'Education Professionnelle Agricole" (BEP-A) with 78% of the students getting their diploma. Students of the 6th year are passing this exam. This was the first group passing this exam.

As for the students of the 4th year who passed the exam Brevet Etudes du Premeir Cycle (BEPC), we had 63% success. This is lower than last year by 10%. The girls in particular did not perform at this exam. We will need to examin closely this situation.

Students of the 5th year have to do a training of 2 months during the vacation. Some students have done this training at the LAP and some on the farms of ASAP. Against the work they perform on top of their training subject, they are receiving 92US$ which is the amount of their tuition for the following school year.

Attached is a report on the activities at the LAP during the school year 2019-2020.

For the oming school year, we expect to have more than 300 students!!!

We need your help and the help of your friends in order to get the funding needed to run the school with so many students.

GlobalGiving is having an action between September 14 and 18 where donation under 50US$ will received a 50% bonus. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/send-a-student-to-an-agricultural-school/donate/

Progress report on the mask project

Awareness meeting COVID 19 iin the village of Fina
Awareness meeting COVID 19 iin the village of Fina

Masks are an essential part of the protection against COVID 19.

In Burkina Faso masks are mandatory since May, unfortunatly there is no real enforcement of this rule. People keep going around specially onvery busy markets without masks.

Test availability for coronavirus is really limited and information coming from the government about number of casis not really reliable.

In the rural area, distancing, hand washing and masks are rules which are even less followed. Distancing is not easy in a place where social contact is very important specially at funerals. Hand washing needs soap which is not always available. Masks have a costs which the villagers cannot afford.

It is the period in the villages in Burkina Faso when the food (from last year harvest) is getting very low until the harvest of this year not coming before september for aome of teh crops. A difficult time.

We cannot change the way people live, but we can help them to stay healthy by providing them with masks and by doing awareness meeting about the need to wear them.

Thank you for your donation, but we need more in order to achieve our goal of 10.000 masks.

Please communicate this project to your network. What is important for developped country is even more important for developping countries.

COVID 19 impact on education program of the LAP

measuring the temperature
measuring the temperature

In March, the government decided to close all schools dur to the coronavirus.

All the students of the LAP went home. Home for the students are villages which can be up to 120 km from the LAP. Also all the main roads were closed.

In order to keep the students busy, we have sent them weekly exercices which were collected and corrected. With the extension of the closing of the schools, we then send teachers to the villages to work with the students who are in an exam year. This surprised the parents and helped motivated the students.

The exam year (4th and 6th year) came back to the LAP on June 1st. The other years cam back 2 weeks later even if the government did not open them. We beleive taht it was needed to get back for a few weeks before the long 2,5 months vacation.

The return to the lAP was done respecting all the recommended precaution: measure of temperature, washing hands, wearing mask and keeping distances.

The state exam will start on July 14th. We are not too sure what to expect with this incomplete study year.

We are already thinking about the new school year which will start September 15th. For this new school year we are looking at the possibility to integrate a few students from refugees families in coordination with the UNHCR from Burkina.

Thank you for your support, stay safe.
