We apply the "hand up, not a handout" approach and we do not stop at the humanitarian aspect, we are already working to create conditions in which people from the margins of society itself will be able to generate revenue and achieve independence. The core activity is publishing the street magazine LICEULICE (56 issues up till now; 10000 copies per issue; over 200.000 copies sold). The magazine LICEULICE is distributed through a vendor network (50% of every sold issue goes directly to the vendor), that consists of members of marginalized groups. Our vendors are people experiencing poverty, exclusion and homelessness. Many of them live with some form of physical or mental disability, or belong to other marginalized groups that can hardly ever find work on the regular job market. In the previous period we managed to secure a job and income, psycho-social and economic support for more than 450 individuals. The distribution network is constantly expanding, and currently has about 120 vendors who sell around 9,000 copies per issue. During the past years, LICEULICE has grown into an open media space, a network made of a large number of partners: journalists, activists, experts from various fields, artists and designers, civil society organisations and institutions; a powerful platform where the information leads to action, to the benefit of all sides. Our key focuses are 1) fighting for human rights and antidiscrimination 2) defending the issues of public interest 3) affirming the practices that lead to sustainable development. We are trying to introduce these topics in a way that is attractive and understandable for the wide readership - thus encouraging them to act practically, whether in their local, micro-fields, or on a larger scale. Liceulice has also started several projects that raise awareness for certain socially relevant issues, among others the Street festival of activism - Vreva, Platform for the socially engaged design and illustration For good causes, My neighbour without a roof - an open, online assistance for homeless people, socially engaged T-shirts Stenderaj. LICEULICE initiated similar magazines in other countries in the region - Ball per Ball in Prishtina, Liceulice in Sarajevo and Lice v lice in Skopje. LICEULICE magazine has become a respectable and influential member of International Network of Street Papers, as well as a member of Independent Cultural Scene of Serbia and Social Economy Network in Serbia.
