Hope of Children and Women Victims of Violence's (HOCW) mission is to provide services that ease the transition of asylum seekers and refugees into Ugandan society and prepare them for a permanent placement in Uganda or for asylum in Europe of the US. Currently most refugees served by HOCW are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Many refugees arrive in Uganda alone or with partially intact families. Most leave the majority of their belongings in their home country. Almost none speak English or Luganda, the languages of business and commerce in Uganda.
