Teaching Healthy Habits to Last a Lifetime

Each year approximately 1,000 deaths per day among children under the age of 5 could be avoided if drinking water, sanitation, and hand hygiene were addressed….

As the New Year is under way, hundreds of parents and children in India have been learning together about the importance of water-health & hygiene through attending activity-based, hands-on workshops covering everything from germs and how they spread, to bathing, tooth brushing, clean water collection and storage, as well as water conservation. After each Workshop, the parents and children continue learning through a fun-filled community viewing of our DVD, which was created by Sesame Workshop in support of our program, followed by more games and activities. Don’t take it from me – take a look at what the children and their caregivers had to say:

“We liked all the activities in the five days. We got to know a lot about cleanliness. My grandma also liked it. We hope this program happens again and again.” – Student, Grade 6

“If each one follows the practices learned in these workshops then no one will fall sick and we can have a healthy India” - Student, Grade 4

“The health and hygiene Workshops served as a bonding activity for my child and me. It is a great experience drawing, performing and playing with him. This is my first time to learn new things with my son.
– Mother of 1st Grade Student

“I learned from this workshop how to clean my body. I also found out that I have to save water because it is a limited resource.”
- Mother of Pre-school Student

While we are off to a good start in making an impact through education in India, we would like to expand our efforts through hygiene education in more communities across India - with your help this is possible! Join us -please help spread the word on how children and their parents can learn and create new, healthy habits together – creating hope for a healthier future!

443 Million School Days are Lost Each Year

443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related illness.

You can change this.

You already did change this for over 1,000 people in Taek Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia through the installation of an AquaTower and Planet Water’s hygiene education program at Taek Primary School.

Here is how school Headmaster talks about the impact that having clean water and hygiene education has made in his school, “My school had no clean water, I tried to make aware of unsafe water to the students, and some bring boiled water to school. The students faced waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid… and spent a lot of money for caring. Now we have clean water system in the school, my students drink clean water and our school attendance improved and the tower is our school hand washing station so students wash their hands before they go into their class rooms.”

For the children at Taek Primary School, having access to clean, safe water for the first time means hope for a healthy future.

Thank you - YOU have made a difference in the lives of those in need. Please continue to give the gift of water – and spread the word – because together, we can continue to abolish water poverty…one community at a time!

Lives Transformed Through Hygiene Education

Hand washing with soap is a "do-it-yourself vaccine" that prevents infections and saves lives – and hundreds of parents and children where we work in India have been learning together all about this!

Planet Water aims to foster and support a global and local culture of hand washing with soap through conducting hands-on, activity-based Water-Health & Hygiene Workshops covering everything from hand washing, germs and how they spread, to bathing, tooth brushing, clean water collection and storage, as well as water conservation. After each Workshop, the parents and children continue learning through a fun-filled community viewing of our DVD, which was created by Sesame Workshop in support of our program, followed by more games and activities.

Don’t take it from me – take a look at what the children and their caregivers had to say about the impact YOU have helped make:
“…My favorite activity was working with the giant teeth and toothbrush. I now know how to brush my teeth properly.
- 5th Grade Student

“Thank you for teaching us about keeping ourselves clean and keeping the water clean. The checklist about keeping the water clean is helpful. It will serve as a reminder for my entire family and me. - Mother of a Kindergarten Student

“The health and hygiene Workshops served as a bonding activity for my child and me. It is a great experience drawing, performing and playing with him. This is my first time to learn new things with my son. – Mother of a 1st Grade Student

For the children across India, having access to hygiene education for the first time means a healthier future, improved education and more happiness. Thank you - YOU have made a difference in the lives of those in need. Please continue to give the gift of hygiene education – and spread the word – because together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those in need!
