Ana's story

Workshops
Workshops

Dear Patronato community,

Thanks to the contributions of donors, during the quarantine we have provided 180 individual psychology sessions in virtual and face-to-face modality for 25 mothers and caregivers who are beneficiaries of the Patronato Foundation, managing to accompany, guide and impact in a positive way during the quarantine period and crisis derived from the global emergency situation.

Also, and, to date, we have held 19 virtual workshops on issues related to the prevention of gender violence, domestic violence, self-care, parenting guidelines, family development and treatment possibilities for abuse in Colombia.

During the month of September, we met again with the mothers and women of the project face to face, and, to date, we have carried out 12 workshops on crafts and economic self-management (decoration with balloons, handicrafts, Christmas crafts, macramé) at the Foundation's headquarters, complying with biosafety protocols such as mandatory use of masks, temperature control, hand washing and social distancing.

The psychological consultations and training have contributed to strengthen the mental health and emotional stability of the participating women. One of the beneficiaries is Ana (Name was changed for privacy), 39, who is a single mother of three children, including Santiago (15 years), who receives medical treatment through our foundation for his physical disability and chronic kidney failure.

Ana wants to thank the people who have supported our Foundation through GlobalGiving: “the workshops that I have received have served me a lot and I see that it is an opportunity for the economy of my house, I really like crafts. In advance, I thank the foundation and all those who are helping us, participating with all the workshops and the directives, thank you very much”

As members of the team, we join in the gratitude of Ana and we hope to continue counting on the valuable support that allows us to continue our preventive work with mothers and caregivers.

Please be safe,

Patronato's team

Your contribution to Jhoan's growth

Beautiful Jhoan
Beautiful Jhoan

Dear friend of Patronato Foundation,

I hope both you and your family and friends are healthy and well.

In this report, we want to share with you the progress of Jhoan, one of the children who benefited from the wonderful donation you made to this project. Jhoan is 2 years old, lives with his parents and brothers in a rural area near the city of Medellín, in Colombia. Jhoan is a happy boy, he likes to paint and play with toy cars and balls.

From an early age Jhoan requires frequent medical attention because he has metabolism disorders, developmental disorders, and abnormal weight loss. He is part of the Government subsidized healthcare because his family has a very low income (verified by home visits by our Foundation).

Because he is in this subsidized regime, and because his diagnosis is so complex, the Government healthcare did not give him the therapies and services he needed, and for this he was referred by an allied foundation. Metabolism disorders make Jhoan feel constantly tired, nauseated, without appetite, with convulsions; all of this hinders all the activities that Jhoan likes to do, like painting.

Thanks to your kindness, the Patronato Foundation supports Jhoan with specialized consultations on endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, pulmonology, neurology, nutrition, ophthalmology, pediatrics, psychology, and laboratory tests.

Thanks to your compassion, Jhoan's quality of life has improved noticeably, his diagnoses have been clearer and due to this, follow-up measures have been taken with specialists so that his treatments are more constant and timely. Thanks to you, Jhoan has gained weight, and is already a more energetic kid and already plays more with his toys.

Eternally grateful,

Natalia

Eternamente agradecida,

Natalia

Samuel's journey

Samuel smiling
Samuel smiling

Dear friend,

I hope both you and your family and friends are healthy and well.

In this report, we want to tell you about the progress of Samuel, one of the children who benefited from the wonderful donation you made to the spina bifida project. Samuel is 3 years old; he lives with his parents and siblings in Medellín, Colombia. Currently, he is going to kindergarten and loves to play with educational games and toy cars.

Samuel was diagnosed with spina bifida since birth. He is also a Venezuelan refugee in Colombia, so he cannot use Government healthcare now. Having spina bifida leads to physical deformity, stomach problems, intellectual disability, and paralysis of half of his body. Physical immobility is frustrating and overwhelming for Samuel. It’s hard to be able to play, to be with other children, to engage in the daily activities of the nursery.

Thanks to your generosity, Samuel is in one of Patronato’s programs in which we support Samuel with comprehensive rehabilitation that covers home care, early stimulation, motor skills, the arts, pedagogical initiation, music, and hydrotherapy. In addition to this, we put his parents in contact with several foundations that practice legal pro bono work, so that Samuel can solve his legal situation in Colombia and be able to receive Government healthcare.

Thanks to your kindness and compassion, his quality of life has improved a lot, his motor skills are better and more secure, and he is more attentive when giving directions. Although he still has a long way to go in terms of his mobility, all his daily activities are more bearable, he can perform them more easily, with more ease. Samuel is on the path to a successful development and a productive life. And it is largely thanks to you.

Forever grateful,

Eternamente agradecida,
