Dental treatment

Dental treatment is essential in the rehabilitation of newborn children with cleft lip and palate. A good smile is the best way of showing wellness and a healthy life. We work to give them a perfect oral health. Keeping all their teeth and gums healthy and free of decays is fundamental for all the upcoming orthopedic and orthodontic treatments. Starting at five, when they grow all of their teeth, we start a strong intervention with mouth and face appliances in order to help the correct development of the face that has been conditioned from all of the previous surgeries.

This preparation of the dental arches allows the placement of the alveolar bone grafts, this surgery is fundamental so the teeth can have the support that is needed and don't get lost.

Later on when the growth is completed, treatment is changed for corrective orthodontics which helps the unaligned teeth to get back in place and finish the whole treatment with a big and beautiful smile as a result.

In some cases this orthodontics lead to a last surgery in which we obtain a facial harmony and the occlusion they didn't  have before.

All of the above is the reason why kids at Fisulab get specialized Dental treatment since they grow their first teeth until they finish their development.

In Fisulab, we treat 150 children monthly in dentistry.

12TH REPORT - DONATIONS LAST QUARTER 2015

Fisulab 2015 Annual Activities Report
Fisulab 2015 Annual Activities Report

Dear Donnors,

The healthy integration of the born Cleft Lip and Palate children to their social environment and family implies additional actions to the merely medical treatments that could be practiced to these patients.

The support to the family and the one that it in turn provides to his born child with this condition, usually is more outstanding for the final rehabilitation and the indispensable complement for the development of the medical treatment to be truly effective.

In FISULAB we give much importance to a series of activities (additional to the surgical treatment, dentistry, speech therapy or psychology) which pretend to favor the development of social and communication skills in different scenarios of community participation for the patients, including the participation of their families; vocal exercising workshops which reinforce main aspects in their language skills being able to be part of the institutional chorus that represents Fisulab in some events, among others. All of them contribute to the self-esteem and children´s security, also giving the family tools for acceptance and necessary support for a harmonious integration with the various spaces of social interaction: school, work and friends, among others.

Please find enclosed Fisulab´s  annual activities report for 2015.

Thanks again and hope to continue with your support.

11TH REPORT - DONATIONS JULY, AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER

With the resources received through this Project at the very beginning, we had proposed to provide treatment to 16 children (5 in pre-school age, 8 in early-scholar age and 3 in pre-teen age).  It is very pleasurable to see that from the 16, 13 are still continuing their integral treatment; however, with the resources received through Global Giving during this reported period (July, August and September) integral treatment for only 2 of them could be covered for three more months.  To continue with the remaining 14 children we will need your generous support again.

During 2015, thanks to the support received from other Fisulab’s sponsors, we were able to provide treatment to 74 new patients (from new-born to adults), who added to actual patients total 531 patients treated during past year with a total of 3.541 dentistry, speech therapy, psychology, plastic surgery and otolaryngology consultations, mainly.  Additional to this, 150 surgeries were practiced to these patients, each of them responding to specific patient conditions (please see graphic enclosed below).
