Getting Back to the Life You Love

The Rehabilitation Therapy Center at Cedar Village provides expert care with individualized treatment plans. Our physical, occupational, and speech therapists are on-staff at Cedar Village, and specialize in treating people 50 and better. Patients have access to the latest treatment plans and newest technologies to meet their unique needs.

The Aquatic Therapy Center is state of the art, including two warm water small pools for individual therapy and a large warm water pool for group work. Resident programming, like Water Tai Chi and Water Aerobics, are also held in the Aquatic Therapy Center. Because of the bouyancy of the water, warm water therapy is a powerful tool for recovery, making exercise possible without strain on the joints.

Whether it is transitional care between the hospital and home, or out-patient therapy, patients and therapists work together to rebuild strength, balance, flexibility and endurance with the top-priority to heal faster, feel better, and return the patient to the life they love.

Giving Life While Life is Left

Last month our Hospice Team escorted two patients to the movie theater see “The Jungle Book”. Reflecting on that trip, one of our Hospice Team members writes, “People often see Hospice as the last stop on life’s long and sometimes bumpy road, but I see Hospice as an opportunity to allow a patient to LIVE. Taking patients to see a movie, allowing our patients to live out the rest of days with dignity and comfort. We are not here to take life, but to give life while life is left”. The Hospice team at Cedar Village takes every opportunity to enhance the lives of our patients.

Through individualized care and a whole person approach, the Cedar Village Hospice program enriches the lives of patients and ensures the comfort and security of their family members. Patients and families develop a strong bond with their caregivers throughout the palliative care process. Palliative care focuses on quality of life and well being for terminally ill patients, meeting their physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs. Services are administered by an interdisciplinary team of professionals providing comfort without aggressive treatment.

Patients, families and caregivers are involved in the decision-making process and participate in their plan of care to relieve suffering and provide the best possible quality of care for patients and their families

Thank you for your support!

Building Bridges through Creative Expression

Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is an award winning, collaborative, intergenerational art program for people with dementia between Cedar Village and the Scripps Gerontology School at Miami University. OMA is founded on the fact that people with dementia are capable of expressing themselves creatively and is grounded in person-centered ethics to build bridges across age and cognitive barriers through art.

OMA is most often implemented in small group sessions where the resident is paired with volunteers and/or staff members who have been trained to promote social engagement, autonomy, and dignity of people with dementia through creative self-expression. These volunteers or staff members work on a one-to-one basis with the residents to build close relationships with people with dementia. The art making sessions culminate in a gallery exhibition, with the artists, their families, and the volunteers/ staff members celebrating their accomplishments while educating the public about the creative capacities of people with dementia through artwork.

OMA received a Best Practices Award from LeadingAge Ohio (2011); was recognized as a Program of Distinction by Generations United (2015); and is listed as a Quality Improvement Project by Ohio Department of Aging (2015).
