Listen and Talk

At Listen and Talk, our mission is to teach children who are deaf or hard of hearing to communicate and learn through listening and spoken language. With the aid of advanced hearing technology and committed families involved in specialized programs provided by Listen and Talk, almost all children with hearing loss can learn to listen and use spoken language, allowing them to fully participate in a hearing world. Listen and Talk achieves these remarkable results by combining proven auditory-based educational methods with the use of advanced hearing technology including: digital/programmable hearing aids, cochlear implants, personal FM systems, and sound field systems for classrooms. Music to Help Deaf Children Learn to Listen

This project will provide support to Listen and Talk's music program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Music is a powerful tool in enriching a child's listening skills as they learn to listen and talk. Musical instruments, song books, and specialized materials available in our music program can help families make music an integral part of their everyday lives.
Technology to Tap Toddler Talk

Children who are deaf or hard of hearing are not able to develop the ability to listen and talk without appropriate technology and specialized supports. This project will provide technology that measures the quality and quantity of interactive talk. This, in turn, will help families enrich their child's listening environment and communication and better enable their child who is deaf or hard of hearing to develop rich spoken language and listening skills for learning.
English Language Learners: Equitable Communication

This project will build a library of specialized educational materials for non-English speaking families whose child is deaf or hard of hearing, and learning to use listening and spoken language to communicate.
Building Capacity in Underserved Regions

Most babies who are identified as deaf or hard of hearing can learn to communicate through listening and spoken language. Many families whose baby is identified with hearing loss choose to help their child learn to listen and talk. There is a shortage of qualified providers in many regions of Washington State. The goal of this project is to advance the skill development of birth-to-three providers serving children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families, in underserved areas of WA.
Help them Hear! Hearing Device Loaner Bank

Listen and Talk will establish a hearing technology loaner bank serving 200 families/year. Our mission is to help children who are deaf or hard of hearing learn to communicate through listening and spoken language. Children attending Listen and Talk use high-tech hearing devices to give them access to sound. Specialists help them develop the ability to listen when using their hearing devices. The loaner bank will allow for learning to listen even when a personal device is in repair.
Using Technology to Serve Children Who are Deaf

It is possible for a child who is deaf or hard of hearing to develop listening and spoken language. Listen and Talk's early intervention providers coach parents in their home to help their child learn to listen and, in turn, learn to talk. Listen and Talk implemented Virtual Home Visits (VHV) to enable providers to apply their expertise to families more efficiently while maintaining effectiveness. The expansion of the VHV model enables more families to be served across a wider geographical area. project reportread updates from the field
