Children and the Covid-19

Boy washing his hands

The last three months have been difficult for all people in the world due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has stopped the world and in a very sad way, has seen many people die in all countries, in addition to generating much economic and social instability.

Mexico and Chiapas have not been the exception, economic paralysis, along with fear and ignorance, have made child workers feel even more vulnerable.

The economic situation of the 250 children that Melel Xojobal cares for, work in craft markets, as well as in food markets, which have had to close to prevent the virus from spreading, tourism has been canceled and therefore their income has been reduced and many of his parents have been left without work.

For security reasons, we have not held workshops and activities with children, however, we maintain contact by phone and social networks, if they have them, to find out how they are and what they need, also, thanks to the contributions of people like you. At GlobalGiving we have been able to deliver “solidarity pantries” to the families that need it most.

We hope that the resumption of activities is healthy and safe and that soon we can continue our work, which will undoubtedly undergo changes, what we are sure of, is that we must move towards a more just and equitable society that learns from situations like this for the common good.

The best for you always and thanks for your constant support.

Children with Rights

On November 20, 2019, 30 years of the Convention on the Rights of the children were fulfilled. During this time, actions have been taken by many people, organizations and government to guarantee them, but much remains to be done.

We commemorate this day and every day with integral training to indigenous children, children of working mothers, through play, balanced feeding, rest and follow-up.

We serve 15 children from 45 days of age, up to 3 and a half years, and promote admission to kindergarten for optimal development and thus guarantee their access to education.

Early childhood is fundamental for the development of the human being, for that reason Arrumacos is a space that continues to provide more children with quality care, integral development and participatory training.

We are workers

Rights
Rights

During the month of December the National Meeting of working children was held, where they could share the reality in which they live, as well as identify themselves as dignified and rights workers.

There were activities of reflection and play where they shared and learned about teamwork, labor and human rights, as well as the importance of unity to achieve compliance.

Children and adolescents from the three meeting groups that participate with Melel Xojobal attended, as well as from states such as Oaxaca, Mexico City, Veracruz, Querétaro and Guatemala.

Having the opportunity to meet new realities and share experiences of struggle among children, strengthens their desire to be better people and feel proud of who they are.
