Training of New Teacher

Training of New Teacher

JAAGO foundation arranges training program for its new teachers to get them familiar with the rules and regulation of our schools. This is an initiative where the new teachers get acquainted with JAAGO foundation’s cultures and the motive of JAAGO so that the new teachers could better relate themselves with our causes and thus make their best effort in achieving those causes. As a part of that, they are also taken through various cases and challenges that JAAGO faces while dealing with the children of the underprivileged community. This type of training sessions also help new and less experienced teachers to build up the knowledge and confidence required to handle our students efficiently.

Training on Classroom Management and Teaching Methodology:

The training consists of familiarizing the teachers about the overall responsibility that are expected from them and the types of activity they are required to do. For instance they are briefed on how to handle the students in large classrooms like that of JAAGO's. They learnt about the resources and time management including designing interactive lesson plans for the children since the teachers will be responsible for designing the lesson plan in such a way that that brings better learning capacity for the student’s part.

Multiple Intelligence:

Training was conducted for the Online Teachers of ‘Online Schooling Program (OSP)’ of JAAGO Foundation on the 'Theory of Multiple Intelligence'. This was aimed to help them learn about the different methods that a teacher can use (according to the theory) in order to teach the learners in his/her classroom in more effective ways. There were about 8 OSP teachers who role played as learners in the session to give a demo.

The output was good as the teachers reported later that the learners' engagement and retention’ enhanced as a result of application of this theory in the classroom.

Learning by Playing

Playing with Mud
Playing with Mud

Playing with Mud:

Last when did you had fun with as silly as playing with the mud? But our JAAGO kids did by soaking in mud when we arranged a daylong session of “Play and Learn with Mud” activity for our students .Because “Learning is fun, learning is creativity” and this was aimed to build imagination, creativity among the children and to teach the children about the fun of togetherness.  Kids spent the entire day making and experimenting with the plethora of things made out of mud. This not only stretched their creative boundaries but also gave them a great learning experience, while appreciating the traditional art of ‘pottery’ in Bangladesh. It’s okay to get dirty sometime and have fun in the way you want to explore your imaginative mind and we at JAAGO gave our students such opportunity to sneak into their playful mind.

Literacy Week 2014:

Literacy is a spark that illuminates the darkness of mind and brings forth a new world to explore. Every child is entitled to enjoy this spark and roam in the numerous branches of knowledge and creativity. Promising a brighter future for the students of JAAGO, the ‘International Literacy Week’ was celebrated from 7th Sep 2014 - 11th Sep 2014 in all the school branches of JAAGO. The students of our school actively engaged themselves in various activities. The main highlights of the event were poster presentation, essay competition by the students where they expressed their mind and innocuous remarks on what they feel literacy means for them. A reading competition for the students was arranged by Aga Khan School at their premise. Our little student’s narrated stories; poems in the reading competition .The whole celebration of literacy week brought much enthusiasm amongst our students and stirred interest towards their academic learning.

In-House Phonics Training

A two day training session on Phonics as a teaching method was undertaken as many newly recruited teachers were unfamiliar with the use of Phonetics in English language teaching. The objective of this training was to make a better understanding on phonics and its usage in classroom for both new and existing teachers .The training started by a discussion by Ms Sadia Zahid about the sounds of English language and how phonics can be more effective than the traditional method for teachers in teaching English to their   student. In the second phase of the training Ms Marufa Islam and Ms Sadia Zahid collaboratively illustrated some useful techniques of using phonetics and the likely problems the teacher and students may encounter while using it. Some suggestions were also given that may come handy in dealing with those problem. Both sessions were attended by all on-line teachers and some members of the Research and Development team. They found the training very effective.

Universal Children’s Day 2014:

The United Nations call “Universal Children’s Day” is annually celebrated by JAAGO Foundation, and this year was no different. On 20th November, 12000 volunteers of JAAGO Foundation took 4000 street children on a mission to make that day the most memorable day of their lives. And the day was celebrated in 28 districts of Bangladesh.

The ‘Carnival’ started by providing the children with a delicious yet nutritious meal to give the day a healthy start, moving on to have a basic medical check-up afterwards by trained medical professionals. Then the children were taken through the fun events kept in store for them one at a time. These included amusement rides, puppet shows, Bioscope, and sports. The children were also entertained by stand-up comedians as well as were inspired by speeches made by others. The children, who are normally busy earning a living for themselves, had a well-deserved break from their harsh reality.

Apart from this, throughout the day JAAGO representatives pour in to the streets and raise awareness regarding Child Rights with special focus on Education.

Bonding Creates Magic

Bonding Between Sponsor Parent and Daughters
Bonding Between Sponsor Parent and Daughters

Bonding Between Sponsor Parent and Daughters

Ms. Sanjida wanted to help change the life of a child, and she wouldn’t exchange the feeling of pure gratefulness and friendship her children in JAAGO had given back to her for anything in the world. Sanjida is from the U.K and has been supporting JAAGO Rayer bazar school’s students Kajol and Rumpa for over a year for their education.
Sanjida works as the Director of a consulting company in Surrey, U.K during the day, takes care of her household at night, and even then manages to dedicate time for her life’s holy grail – helping underprivileged children stand up on their own two feet. While it’s true that a tiny portion of our earnings (USD 20 / month) help these kids weave their dreams, the love and bonding Sanjida and Rumpa and Kajol feel for each other is something that money can’t buy. As Rumpa and Kajol’s well-wisher / sponsor parent, Sanjida wants to see the girls become such human beings so that when they grow up, they also learn to give to people and transform the community in which they live.

Creativity is Intelligence having Fun

A well-wisher, Mr. Wilkie along with his daughter Jessica and our strong supporter Faiyaz Ahmed Khan joined in with our kids of JAAGO Foundation, Korail, Banani branch to design some T-shirts. JAAGO students spent a remarkable time painting on their T-shirt with fun and bright colors. Try new things are always exciting and challenging for every child. This session has helped the students to play with their imagination and creativity.

Workshop by Mozilla Firefox

Every day we are moving out of the narrow domain of the “geek” to the broader world. In recent years, web development and programming have started to percolate into the general perception of people. It hasn’t become popular “just because”. There is a growing realization that, knowing web development and programming is essential; especially for the growing children as it’s the basic step towards learning technology.

Since JAAGO Foundation is certain of and has been facilitating quality education through technology by the unique idea of “online schooling”; Ed Tech has become an integral part of our learning. And to move beyond, we inspire our children to learn by making. Allowing them to think technology as a tool for creativity rather making it a critical skill, perhaps helping them to understand the building blocks of web.

With the help of “Webmaker” a project of Mozilla who believes that, innovation can come from anyone and are dedicated to spread web-education to every single corner of the society; JAAGO kids have advanced to the future world of technology. Kids excitedly made their own apps, web accounts and shared the knowledge of creating web without limits. This event was just a gateway, a foundation that‘ll help the kids to build anything upon it.

Annual Iftar Evening

Ramdan is the holy and a pious month for the Muslims. This is the month in which we not only experience the hardship the poor people faces, but we also build a bond of humanity with them. Every year JAAGO Foundation organizes an annual Iftar for their students and their respective sponsors, connecting the sponsors and the beneficiaries. Sponsors sit with their sponsored child and exchange their gratitude to each other. A special bond is always visible in that round table. During the annual Iftar, the supporters of the Foundation does not only travel to the past seeing how JAAGO grew, but a glimpse of the future is also made known.

Thank You

JAAGO is a family. And we are struggling hard to keep our bond stronger. We recently have strengthened our Sponsor a Child program to support all the new students we are going to accommodate in the coming session. We will open up two new branches this July and we need sponsors to support their education. A few minutes’ look into our website and a little bit contribution might make a huge difference in their lives. JAAGO is deeply thankful all those generous sponsors who have been supporting us morally and through donation. We really thank you all for every benevolent contribution that helped us reach education to the many underprivileged kids in Bangladesh.
