Field Travelers are interns that spend months traveling in regions visiting dozens of organizations across a wide variety of causes. They conduct day-long site visits with the projects listed on GlobalGiving, host training sessions, and build relationships with local networks.
What is The Field Traveler Program?
GlobalGiving's Field Travelers have visited more than 60 countries, performed over 1,000 site visits, and traversed six continents. They have trekked out to the remote ends of the Amazon and the foothills of the Himalayas to visit GlobalGiving's nonprofit partners and learn more about their work. Field Travelers have conducted online fundraising workshops and helped grassroots organizations build their fundraising capacity.
Hired, trained, and directed from GlobalGiving’s Washington, DC office, Field Travelers have the opportunity to gain professional, hands-on experience in the field while having the adventure of a lifetime! Travelers take on an important role at GlobalGiving. During their experience they:
verify nonprofit partners’ projects in person through 20-50 day-long site visits to their program sites;
support current partners with one-on-one consultations at the site visits and through 5 - 10 in-person training sessions;
recruit new organizations to the GlobalGiving community by hosting 5 - 10 workshops;
research and develop relationships with the best nonprofit networks, contacts, and resources; and they
explore new cultures and sites and have the opportunity to meet incredible people.
GlobalGiving’s Field Travelers are passionate, experienced individuals who travel internationally for three to six months in specific countries or regions of the world. Though not required, many Field Travelers are fluent in the language of the region they are visiting.
Field Travelers are selected through a competitive application and interview process and participate in an intensive, four-week training in Washington, DC. Most importantly, they are valuable members of the GlobalGiving and Field teams, who bring passion, creativity, optimism, and a good sense of humor to their very important work. Meet the team here.
