March 21, 2022 (WASHINGTON, DC) — GlobalGiving is proud to welcome Chinwe Effiong, an accomplished scholar in the field of international development and a seasoned global humanitarian, to its executive team in the critical role of Chief Program Officer.
As GlobalGiving's Chief Program Officer, Chinwe will lead organizational strategy to provide world class experiences that amplify the voices and perspectives of nonprofit partners and changemakers in more than 175 countries. She will also oversee the GlobalGiving program team, which supports partner selection and capacity development, grantmaking, and disaster response.
"I cannot think of any organization more strategically positioned for transformative impact in the current global climate," Chinwe said of GlobalGiving, a nonprofit that serves thousands of changemakers with diverse missions in economic development, gender equality, climate action, and more.
In her previous role, Chinwe served as Assistant Dean of International Studies and Programs at Michigan State University, where she was responsible for leveraging MSU expertise to identify and scale new opportunities for global citizenship education, community building, and positive youth development and entrepreneurship. Before joining MSU, Chinwe served as CEO of Junior Achievement (JA) in Africa, where she provided strategic direction and oversight for JA operations across sub-Saharan Africa. Chinwe's prior experiences as Director of Programs for Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership and as Country Director for Nigeria and Regional Director for East and West Africa at the nonprofit Africare have also well prepared her for strategic leadership and partnership building at GlobalGiving.
"Chinwe brings a wealth of incredible experience, and we are grateful to have her join us as we mark our 20th year of accelerating community-led change," said Donna Callejon, interim CEO of GlobalGiving.
Chinwe holds a Ph.D. and master's degree in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Delaware. She earned her bachelor's degree in English and Literary Studies from the University of Calabar in Nigeria. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling with her husband and three daughters and writing children's books.
GlobalGiving is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit that makes it safe and easy to support important causes around the world.
