London, UK, August 1, 2013 - Alex Renaud (13), a local London school boy, has raised a staggering £31,000 for Casita Linda a small Mexican charity that provides simple decent housing to the most disadvantaged families in Ejido, Mexico, by completing an impressive climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2013.
The GlobalGiving UK project that luckily captured Alex’s imagination is a small grassroots charity helping families in extreme poverty who do not qualify for government housing programs or Habitat for Humanity grants.
Alex raised overall 92% of the project budget which enabled 5 houses to be built in an extremely disadvantaged area of Mexico.
In recognition of his admirable achievement, Alex and his family have been invited out to Mexico to visit and meet the families that have benefited from his amazing fundraising feat where they will meet the mayor of San Miguel de Allende; this trip will take place on the 8th August 2013.
Alex will also be given a tour of the homes that have been built in the Ejido neighbourhood and visit the local school to give a talk to the school children on the importance of education and social responsibility.
Alex, now fully recovered from his climb, said: “I chose Casita Linda as I wanted to help smaller charities that are often overlooked when fundraisers are being selected. My money can make a real difference to these people with an immediate tangible impact.”
