Philanthropy Manager

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a leading role in the development of GlobalGiving UK’s newest income streams. GlobalGiving UK is entering an exciting period of growth, with aspirations to significantly scale the impact it can provide to its nonprofit partner community.

We are looking for an experienced and innovative fundraiser, who will be expected to deliver revenue targets by securing new funding from major donors and legacies, significantly contributing to GlobalGiving’s income targets that aim to increase our impact and sustainability. Success in this role will see more funding reaching communities in an equitable, trusted way.

Key to this role is a deep understanding of GlobalGiving’s value proposition and role in a two-sided marketplace/online platform. This is not a traditional charity, we fundraise for fellow global non-profits across a variety of themes all over the world - pulling heartstrings is unlikely to be a successful fundraising strategy!

In order to set us up for long term success we are open to considering flexible/alternative terms of engagement, i.e. freelance, contract, etc., as well as a full time employed role. The main criteria is that the candidate is able to demonstrate the skills, experience and a thorough strategy to achieve the desired outcomes expected of this role, within the set remuneration budget and timescales.

GlobalGiving is a nonprofit and next-generation nonprofit funder on a mission to accelerate community-led change around the world and help nonprofits thrive. Fundraising is different at GlobalGiving; we inspire people to give to causes that matter to them through our online marketplace at GlobalGiving.org and work with organisations to make sure their donations make a big impact for communities. Since 2002, we’ve helped a community of nonprofits in over 170 countries access the tools and resources they need, and we’ve made it safe and easy for donors and companies to make our world a better place.

Role Purpose

GlobalGiving UK is entering an exciting period of growth with aspirations to significantly scale the impact it can provide to its nonprofit partner community. To this end we have created an exciting new role, Philanthropy Manager, to develop and execute a successful major donor fundraising strategy and funding pipeline in the UK (and eventually Europe). The strategy will also explore the potential to raise new forms of additional income from legacies and endowment/s.

This role will be expected to deliver revenue targets by securing new funding from major donors and legacies, significantly contributing to GlobalGiving’s income targets that aim to increase our impact and sustainability. Success in this role will see more funding reaching communities in an equitable, trusted way.

Key Responsibilities and Initial Outcomes

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a leading role in the development of GlobalGiving UK’s newest income streams.

The Philanthropy Manager will work closely with GlobalGiving UK’s Co-CEO and Income Lead, to develop and implement a multi-year strategy and activity plan for major donors, in-memoriam and legacy giving, to maximise income and engagement, and deliver against ambitious targets in alignment with global aspirations, impact and sustainability goals.

The postholder will develop and manage relationships with major donors. Initially the main focus will be on new business, generating new prospects, building lasting relationships and generating compelling proposals for substantial financial gifts. This post involves close collaboration with a range of internal colleagues, including those responsible for income generation, and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have experience in major donor cultivation and acquisition, with the ability to think digitally and innovatively, to maximise supporter engagement from new and (a few) existing donors. They will be a passionate and effective communicator, both written and verbally, and highly proficient in analysing data.

By using proactive and extensive networking skills, the postholder will inspire prospective donors to engage with and support GlobalGiving’s work, representing GlobalGIving at the highest levels to develop engagement and interest. They will develop funding propositions and supporting materials to illustrate the benefits of giving, including share giving and tax effective giving. The postholder will also be expected to uphold the highest of fundraising standards and maintain full and accurate management information records, ensuring that all fundraising activity undertaken by the role fully complies with UK charitable practices, information management (e.g. GDPR) and fundraising regulation (e.g. UK Fundraising Regulator Code of Fundraising Practice).

Key to this role is a deep understanding of GlobalGiving’s value proposition and role in a two-sided marketplace. This is not a traditional charity, we fundraise for fellow global non-profits across a variety of themes - pulling heartstrings is unlikely to be a successful fundraising strategy!

Whilst final outcomes are to be agreed, there is an expectation of the following:

  1. Development of fundraising strategy and case for support:
    1. major donor - within 3 months
    2. legacy - within 9 months
  2. Develop pipeline and identify unique major donor prospects - first 12 months.
  3. Fundraising deployment & cultivation - first 18 months achieve:
    1. >= £100k of core income from major donors for GlobalGiving UK
    2. >= £750k of donation volume from major donors for our nonprofit partners
    3. Legacy prospectus and other funding prospects - targets to be agreed.

  • Maintain an external focus on relevant research and giving trends and use this information to orient GlobalGiving’s key learnings and messaging for an external audience and identify prospects that lead to increased donations.
