Summary
In Kathmandu, Nepal, many married and some unmarried women are abused on a daily basis. Our safe house is the only refuge for these women, as most of their families turn them away.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
We have partnered with The Women's Foundation in Nepal, and they already have a great program in place. Abused women and children come to their three shelters, where they are helped legally, socially and medically.
How will this project solve this problem?
The Foundation has a number of vocational training programs, such as skill training using sustainable resources, like weaving, sewing, candle making and sauce and jam making. They also run knowledge based training such as accounting and counselling.
Potential Long Term Impact
By providing support, counselling, vocational training and thereby selfsufficiency to women who leave abusive husbands, WF show an alternative to other women. This will in time help break the cycle of violence and gender abuse in Nepal.
Project Message
