Sakena Yacoobi BS MPH was a Professor at D'etre University in Detroit. Returning to work with her own people in 1992, she founded the Afghan Institute of Learning, an Afghan women's NGO which provides teacher training, health and education services to 350,000 Afghan women and children annually. She co-founded and is Vice President of Creating Hope International, a U.S. non-profit.
M. Ishaq has worked for AIL since 2002 and now coordinates all of AIL's activities in Herat. A graduate of Herat University's Faculty of Literature, M. Ishaq is an experienced manager and community organizer.
Ms. Jamila has worked for AIL since 1998 as a teacher trainer, then academic advisor, and now AIL's Kabul Office General Manager. She is a graduate of the UNDP English Language Training Center and the Pedagogical Institute of Kabul Afghanistan. Previously, she was an English teacher at a number of schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
