Agros provides basic health care and education as part of a more holistic effort to support these families' courageous efforts to farm their own land, build new lives, and rediscover their dignity.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Due to drought, civil war, and crisis in the coffee industry, millions of families in Guatemala suffer from poor health. Malnutrition is the underlying cause in over 50% of all childhood deaths in Central America. Approximately 1,200,000 children in Guatemala lack basic food security and are literally wasting away to their deaths. The Pan American Health Organization has termed the vicious cycle of malnutrition and infection “most prevalent public health problem in the world today.”
How will this project solve this problem?
Agros health promoters work with families to develop their health plans and realize the goals.
Potential Long Term Impact
Agros’ health initiative promotes the general health of the women and children of the communities.
