This project aims at:
1. Improving environment through the use of environment friendly bags manufactured by the home based workers especially women
2. Economic Empowerment of women especially home based workers.
3. Sensitization of common masses on the negative impact of using plastic bags.
In 2004 Pak-EPA, estimated 55 billion plastic bags were being manufactured and consumed annually in Pakistan. This figure will double in 2015. Average 1 person use 2-3 bags daily and do not dispose off properly, just throw in open air and ultimately it does not only damage the environment but also clog the drainage system, resulted urban flooding, human health and diseases.
We intend to provide cotton bags to consumers include; children, youth, men and women for shopping instead of plastic bags. These bags are being manufacturing by home based workers & functional vocational centers. We are providing education and training to school going children and household women to adopt environment friendly practices in routine life.
The project will educate and train 500 household women, 100 working women and 1000 children on environmental issues in one year. Project's beneficiaries will start environment friendly practices and project will display on website. The number of project beneficiaries is incremental and will increase every year.
