Teach women to drive professionally and earn a good living. The goal of this project is to teach 1000 women how to drive taxis. The program will take 3 months to complete and we have job opportunities already lined up for those who pass the driving tests. Our partner in Nepal, Laxmi Pratisthan will conduct the training program. They have a great deal of experience in the management of women's skill training programs.
Women in Nepal face significant barriers in obtaining employment. Many women have gone into marginal skill jobs that cannot support them or have turned to jobs in "cabin bars" or the world's oldest profession in order to feed themselves and their children. Denied good educations due to their gender, women simply do not have opportunity for employment. Working as taxi drivers will provide a good income to women.
This project has set the following objectives: To develop responsible and competent women drivers To create employment opportunities for women To reduce women trafficking and prostitution activities by providing driving skill as an alternate Since driving is directly related with the road safety, the project has set the following objective: To raise traffic awareness and road safety
Beneficiaries: 1000 women aged between 18-30 years including 300 from Kavrepalanchowk, 150 from Sindhupalchowk, 150 from Nuwakot, and 400 women who are working as sex workers in Kathmandu Driving taxi will give these women stable employment and a good income. We have taxi companies ready to hire them as they complete training.
