Prudence grew up in South Africa with her grandmother, aunt and three sisters. In 1990 she was diagnosed with HIV. Prudence noted the way people responded to her status was terrifying. “No one wanted to touch me, be near me or give me a job,” she says. Due to the intense discrimination she experienced, Prudence decided to become active in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
