In Tigania Kenya girls die in the shadows because they have been bullied and pressurized to perform self genital mutilation. Only establishing teenage girls in business will rescue them from death.
Child bride trafficking is poverty enabled, it subjects girls to depend on polygamous marriages to survive economicaly after going through genital mutilation. Girls that have not been mutilated are bullied by mutilated ones and they suffer low self esteem because nobody can marry them and end up mutilating themselves and dying like the case of Pamela Kathambi documented by the BBC in 2006. Giving these girls an alternative source of income will break the cycle of poverty and protect their lives.
Establishing teenage girls in business entreprenuership will help rehabilitate mutilated chidl brides that have left abusive polygamous husbands. Also the girls at risk to self mutilation can earn a living to support their educational and basic needs
We shall eliminate self genital mutilation and child bride trafficking. In Kenya 27 % of women live with the consequences of female genital mutilation. We shall elminate this culture by year 2020 in Tigania Meru.
