Hello Friends, hope you are having fun and if you are in states then preparing for the Thanksgiving weekend.

With so much excitement, I spent time with our SANTI children last month and I cannot express the ecstatic feeling I had during my stay there. It is a real touchy feel to meet these children who were originally belonged to poorest section of the society.

When I compare 2011 versus 2014 I must admit children are growing and have learnt more about communication, good behavior, education and overall view towards life. Last month, when I entered to meet these children, they all stood and greeted me saying “Good evening Sir”. I was quite impressed by their warm welcome. I can see they were more organized and can communicate to me in the local language “Odiya”.

I discussed with children and asked “do you want to go back to the place where you came from? “. The answer was unanimously “No”. Which itself is an answer to most of our questions who are working and supporting SANTI from outside India.

I and my wife also discussed with two of SANTI wardens, Mr Pati and his wife. This is definitely a dream comes true to see where we are now. Back in 2011 we thought to provide full support to 10 children and with all your support we can see the happiness in 23 children eyes.

We also found issues and we will be focusing in future such as better living, finding better teachers & better grades for children etc etc..

Thanks for your continued support and we are looking for your whole hearted support so that we can make them better human being.

Thanks

Ashok Dandpat

Hello Friends

Great thanks for your continual support in helping these children to achieve something in a new world.

Our SANTI children participated in school sports activity on Independence Day. 4 children performed outstanding in athletics. Poonam stood 1st in 100m run, Jasita placed 3rd  in 100 m run, Sanju won 2nd place in 200 m run and Mandeep placed 3rd in sack race. Definitely a fun time for these children and we all are proud for them. Without your help these children wouldn’t have won these positions.

Mr. Pati prepared these SANTI children for athletics tournament during summer vacation and we can see some good results. Also during summer time a private tutor spent 10 days teaching self-defense to the children. We are thinking about doing it more during winter time. Summer vacation was a great time for these children to actively participate in various athletic activities. Also we taught them to sing few prayers.

All children are excited as they are attending the next grade in school. After all the hard work they did in last couple of months when preparing for the exam. Children have received new school supplies, text books, note books, pens and bags etc. They are happy and cheerful to attend new classes.

We bought new school uniform for our children and you can see their happiness.

We conducted regular health checkup for children by local physician to make sure we understand the wellbeing of our children. In July very high temperature caused health issues among children. Few children got itching problems. We consulted with doctors and provided medications for them to recover well.

We also focused on evening private coaching for these children. Private tutoring classes were very beneficial to these children as we have noticed in past. We hope to continue the same attention to the children.

Again to remind if you haven’t contributed recently to the monthly expenses please do so. Children definitely need your support.

Cheers

Ashok Dandpat

Dear Friends,

I hope you are doing well and thank you for your hearty support. Overall SANTI children are doing great and here are last three months activities:

  • Jasita’s A grade in school: - I remember when Jasita’s mom asked us to help Jasita enroll in our hostel. Jasita’s dad was no more and her mom was having difficulty to provide home, food or education for Jasita. We realized Jasita’s helpless situation and we enroll her as one of our first student to SANTI. Now, I cannot explain the happiness when I came to know she scored A grade, the best grade in standard 4, a class of more than 100 students. This is definitely a time to pause and celebrate the success. Without your help it was a dream only. Jasita thanks you for your help.
  • Annual exam over – All children successfully appeared the final exam and we are evaluating the result and will publish you more progress reports by next reporting time.
  • Personal Tutor: - We are continuing the study during summer break and setting higher goal for this year.

Issues in front of us:

  • SANTI Child care Center Rental: - As you know we rent the house for our 25 children to stay and study. The Owner of the rental house increased the rental twice for this year. It was a surprise to us as this will strain our budget. We are looking to mitigate this issue.
  • Again to repeat, we definitely need more recurring donors to support a child on a monthly donation amount of $ 28. Please step in to create some more Jasita.
  • We are approached by 10 more children who have lost their mom or dad and belong to poor and homeless folks. It’s heart touching when you listen to each of their stories.
  • Stay tuned for our new initiative for this year....

Thanks again to help Jasita and 24 others.

Last three months activities:

  •          Deepavali – Festival of light is a big festival for family gathering and fire crackers. In SANTI, children felt like home by celebrating Deepavali. Please see pictures of food and crackers.
  •          We wanted create awareness of children education with a focus to eliminate child labor in our local area. On November 14th Children Day, SANTI initiated a rally with 150 children in the local area. Please see the pictures the results were very positive from the residents.
  •          Winter was challenging as the children needed warm clothes. Thanks to an anonymous donor who donated to buy warm clothes and comforter for these children. Please see photos of children with sweaters.
  •          The Goddess Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts and nature. SANTI celebrated Saraswati Puja (Prayer) on the auspicious Sarasawti Puja Day. Please see pictures.
  •          We also conducted regular medical checkup by a Doctor Visit to ensure children are doing well.

Expense Report:

  •          We are publishing our 2013 year-end expenses with this report. Hope you find this useful to evaluate our activities. This will be helpful to know how we spent our money.
  •          Our expenses increased because we increased our support from 10 to 25 children.

Issues in front of us:

  •          Unfortunately, we have almost exhausted the money raised in 2013. We have only about 45 USD left in 2013 year-end account.
  •          We need more recurring donors to support a child on a month to month basis. Please come forward to adopt a child and support for his/her continued growth.

Thanks again for your help and please continue to support.

Dear Friend,

Hope you are doing well and thank you very much for your donations and support to our children. We are excited to tell you the progress of our 25 children in our SANTI Child Care Center.

Last three months activities:

  • In order to boost the quality of education, we appointed Miss Shanti Bhengra as a private tutor to teach all students in the evening time. As we wanted to bring the best out of our children this additional teaching will be very helpful to students who are currently struggling in school. We focus our best to teach these children and hence will be successful in future.
  • We recruited Roshni Tirkey as a new warden to take care of all of our children, previously served by only Balmati Nag. Now both the warden will be taking care of our 25 children.
  • To re-emphasis patriotism, we celebrated the Independence Day by hoisting the flag in SANTI Child Care Center.
  • Children made their own Rakhi (see Picture) and tied to each other on Rakshya Bandhan Day. This will create stronger bonding among the children.
  • Ganesh Puja was observed in the school and also Nuakhai – a festival to have new rice- was celebrated.
  • We also conducted regular medical checkup by a Doctor Visit to ensure children are doing well.

Two interesting Anonymous donors:

  • An Anonymous donor wanted to donate money so that all children will be able to visit to a nearby city for Durga Puja (a Hindu Festival) celebration. This was a very touchy moments for those children because they had never been to these kind of festival. They had a great time with food, Park visit and the City trip. Of course, they were not interested to come back home in the evening. They wanted to have more fun.
  • Another anonymous donor didn’t accept her birthday gift. She donated her Birthday Gift equivalent of money to celebrate the Birth Day of 4 SANTI children. Four children Sobhati, Jashita, Jawara and Seema celebrated their Birthday on 23rd October 2013. You can enjoy the pictures - sorry the cake is gone.

Issues in front of us:

  • We need to complete the half built new building for the SANTI children. Currently we cannot accommodate new children as we have maximized our capacity. We will run a charity drive in next year to collect the funding for this initiative.
  • We need help to rebuild our website so please tell us if you are interested to be a part of the team.

Thanks to all of you for your donation and support. The smiling faces of these children are made possible only by your support. We are proud to be with you.

Thanks again,
