Project Report | Feb 5, 2010
2010

By megalyn Echikunwoke | Founder

W.E.A.P.O.N. is off to a great start in the new year. We have raised enough money to send seventeen (and counting) girls to secondary school for one year. We have been at work on the ground in Agbugugu in the village of Umuoye finding the girls most in need of school fees paid. Because of Global Giving we are able to give scholarships at the start of this current new school year starting in January. Soon we will have more footage of them in action! W.E.A.P.O.N is planning a trip to Nigeria in April 2010. During our visit we will connect with beneficiaries, create videos documenting their progress and after doing some needs research we hope to start a new project in a different area of the country the will be arts based. This work is not only inspiring for the girls who will get an education but for the members of the community that are getting involved in supporting the women and girls of their country. We hope to bring more on board in the future, as of now we have been able to employ a handful of Nigerian local leaders who are committed to working with W.E.A.P.O.N in creating small but effective projects throughout the country that will have a lasting effect. Thank you so much to those who supported us during the Global Open Challenge last fall. We could not have done it without you and the Global Giving community. Would love to get you feedback and ideas on how we can do more and be better at what we are trying to do.
