Summary
Enable the community fo Asgam, Ethiopia to improve their health and use their time for economic development by building and maintaining a sustainable safe water & sanitation system
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Imagine collecting water cup by cup from a seepage point in a dry riverbed. Sadly, for the 565 people of Asgam, this is reality. Traditional water sources are vanishing as natural forests & vegetation cover disappears, leading to accelerated soil erosion & decreased water infiltration rates to underground aquifers. They must share the available water sources with neighboring villages, resulting in fighting between village men & women who are desperate to provide water for their families
How will this project solve this problem?
This project will consist of constructing a borehole with a hand pump and drainage system, and individual household pit latrines.
Potential Long Term Impact
565 people will receive access to safe & adequate water & latrine facilities. Local technicians will be trained to operate and maintain the new water system to ensure its sustainability
Project Message
WaterPartners gives mothers more than access to safe water-it allows them to dream about their daughters' futures, rather than worry about their survival
