Increase introduction and large-scale dissemination of water-control technologies like EazyDrip worldwide to current IDE country programs. Create new opportunities in such regions as Central America.
1.1 billion people in the world survive on less than $1 a day. Most are rural farmers in Asia and Africa who struggle to gain access to water. The goal of this project is to introduce affordable water technologies to the rural poor in developing countries. With an assured water supply, the poor can begin to generate an income from farming and escape from poverty!
IDE makes known technologies extremely affordable. For example, the $5 drip irrigation system allows farmers to irrigate land to produce crops. IDE trains farmers and connects them to local markets where they can sell their goods.
A family that IDE works with sees an average net income increase of $300 a year! Farmers use this income to invest in medicine, housing, food and nutrition, education for children, and improvements to their farms.
