Your donations will provide rainwater capture equipment and storage tanks that will replace the need to purchase clean water at the Sega Girls School, serving Tanzanian girls who are otherwise unable to attend school due to extreme poverty.
The Sega Girls School does not have a supply of potable water and the cost of purchasing water for drinking and cooking is becoming unsustainable as more students join the School. Development of a poultry farm that will both teach students business skills and be a source of income also increases the water requirement. The students' gardens that produce half of the kitchen's fruit and vegetables in the rainy season dry up when it stops raining. The School needs a renewable source of water!
Installation of a rainwater capture system and storage tanks at the Sega Girls School will provide a renewable source of water. Two 1,000 gallon water tanks, fed by roofing gutters, on each of six campus buildings will capture and store sufficient rainwater for all of the School's water requirements annually, allowing the School to expand, develop businesses, irrigate the gardens, and continue to provide a pathway out of poverty for the girls it educates.
The Sega Girls School will serve 200 disadvantaged Tanzanian girls by 2015, giving each girl both an academic education and training in life skills and entrepreneurship so that she will be empowered to break free of poverty and make changes in her own life, family and community.
