"People With the Same Purpose", a Global Grassroots sponsored project, will install the first source of clean water in a Kigali neighborhood, as well as provide health and domestic violence workshops.
This project team of eight women with physical disabilities live in a Kigali slum without access to clean water, making the daily journey to remote water sources very difficult. The team further sees water borne diseases and domestic violence as critical issues facing their community. An accessible source of clean water will not only eliminate a cause of disease, but will also allow the team to reach women gathering around the water source to educate on issues of health and domestic violence.
The team will install a water tank and pipe in the community. When women collect water from it each day, they will be sensitized around issues of sanitation and domestic violence; larger workshops will take place periodically.
150 families will have access to clean water, reducing disease in the community by 40% in 6 months. 80 women will receive workshops on hygiene and domestic violence. The team also aims to increase school attendance 20% among kids who collect water.
