I'm writing to update you on our fundraising challenge for our project - Provide Vocational Training for Ugandan Women - which you generously supported. As I am writing, we have raised $2,160 from 42 donors! This is fantastic progress, and we hope to continue to keep up this momentum. We have 21 days left to raise $1,840 to secure a spot on GlobalGiving's website and provide vocational training for nine women, including Akello Paska.
Akello Paska is no stranger to hardship. At home, in war-torn Northern Uganda, rebels killed her brother and abducted her sister. Her husband, Odero P'Akena, was also abducted, but he managed to escape to the Acholi Quarter. Paska followed him with their children to escape the violence. However, P'Akena is a teacher and could only find work in the North. He was forced to return. Though P'Akena sends some money to her, Paska is responsible for everything else. She cares for their six children, three orphans, and a child that P'Akena had with another woman. Paska does her best to provide for the family by rolling paper beads, running a water kiosk, and working in the balcony gardens, but it is still difficult to feed so many people. With the funding of this project, Paska will have the chance to take a knitting course and learn how to use a complicated machine enabling her to knit eight sweaters in a day. Sweaters are a part of every school's uniform, so knitting will be a successful enterprise.
Paska's tireless, positive attitude is an inspiration. We have 21 days left to raise the final $1,840 to make sure Paska has the opportunity to take the knitting course. That friend or family member you're not sure would be interested in the cause? Take a chance. Tell them why this matters to you, and ask them to consider giving just $10 to make life a little easier for women like Paska.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
With sincere gratitude,
