What are you thankful for? This year, VE is thankful for its amazing volunteers and incredible donors and extended family across the world. People like you allow us to continue to do the work we do, and we are thankful for your dedicated support. As we move into summer here in Chile, we want to make this holiday season as special as possible for the kids!
There are many ways to get involved, and #GivingTuesday is right around the corner. Please think about us next Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014.
This month our we had our tri-annual Jornada retreat in a small coastal town. It was a great opportunity for the volunteers to take a step back and think about their experiences thus far, just past the halfway point in their four-month journeys. We did different team-building activities and had small group discussions. Fun was had by all!
Dear VE friends,
September brought spring to Chile, and with it the days of celebration of Chile's Fiestas Patrias. During the holiday we enjoyed traditional Chilean cueca, empanadas and asados. We ended the month with our monthly Liga de Deportes. This month’s sport theme was hockey. During the Liga we aslo had a workshop where the children learned how to keep themselves safe online with important internet safety tips. As always, we ended the day with a healthy snack.
For $40 USD VE Global are able to give 20 children healthy snacks during our Liga de Deportes. We are a non-profit organization and without the financial support from individuals and business partners our work with children at-risk in Santiago de Chile would not be possible. We are very grateful for all the support we receive!
At VE Global we are always looking for passionate, driven and caring individuals who are willing to make a BIG commitment and a BIG difference! If you are interested in making a positive impact in the lives of children at social risk, become volunteer with VE Global in Santiago! Learn more about our program by visiting our website or contact us.
¡Un abrazo desde Santiago!
A lot has happened in VE since last time! We are so excited to welcome the 8 new members of our September 2014 Volunteer Class! The new class comes from Germany, Poland, Australia, Switzerland, Mexico and Bolivia. We have started the two weeks of orientation where we talk about our mission, vision and values, and we are confident that they are going to prove to be the advocates of social justice the kids we work with need.
It is also time to say goodbye to our May 2014 Volunteer Class. We are deeply grateful for the amazing work this class has done for VE Global and the children we serve in Santiago. It has been a great experience and we will miss you guys dearly!
In August we had our monthly health and wellness league, Liga Deportes. During this Liga class we had the great opportunity to have a professional dancer, Gonzalo Beltran, visiting us. We practiced expressing ourselves with our body thanks to an activity mixing body language, theater and acting. As always, the kids and the volunteers had a really good time this day.
Last month we welcomed our new Development and Communication Intern from France. We are very excited to have her on the team for the next few months! She is an important asset to VE.
¡Saludos desde VE!
Dear VE Friends,
Can you believe that we are halfway through 2014? We recently came back from our July Jornada retreat and are recharged for the months ahead...
Our children's programs are implemented year round by our volunteers. These programs are developed to offer additional educational activities and motivational support for the children we serve. Our monthly health and wellness league, Liga Deportes, took place last Saturday. Each Liga de Deportes focuses on a sport and health topic, and this month's theme was comida saludable, or healthy eating, and we did all sorts of crazy relay races to get up and moving around. The weather was sunny and the children and the volunteers all had a great time.
After five and a half years as our Program Director, Mariah Healy recently had her last day with us in the office. Throughout her time at VE, Mariah has lead over 150 volunteers from 28 different countries through their volunteer experiences. VE would not be the amazing organization that it is without Mariah! We will miss Mariah dearly! Clémentine Bouchereau, a former VE volunteer with impressive international experiences, has taken over for Mariah as Program Director.
The leaves have changed in Santiago, and so have some things at VE! Not only did we finish Orientation with 6 new volunteers, but we also welcome Clémentine Bouchereau as our new Program Director.
Orientation for the new May class was packed full. After 2 challenging, great weeks of orientation, the new volunteers have just finished their third week at their partner organizations. We are proud to have new volunteers from the United States, Poland, Germany and Spain in the new group.
A couple of weekends ago, the new volunteers participated in their first Liga de Deportes! Our professional breakdancer friends Pablo and Claudio led a special breakdance workshop. Kids, volunteers and staff alike had a great time breaking it down and then playing soccer, frisbee and other sports. This month’s theme was active living, as the kids learned about small changes, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, to add to their daily routines in order to get more exercise. We had two MVP kids of the day that went home with a jump rope and a soccer ball as prizes for their great participation.
As we close the 2014 fiscal year, we realize the changes and challenges that lie ahead of us as an organization, but also the tremendous amount of support we have from so many people. For that we want to express our immense gratitude. Without people like you, we wouldn't be able to bring such incredible volunteers from all over the world to make a difference in the lives of the equally incredible children we work with.
