Dear Sponsors, Friends and Well Wishers,
I have returned back from my annual visit to India to meet our children. I am always thankful to my employer, Discovery Communications LLC (The popular Discovery TV Channel) and my management, for allowing me to take a long vacation to participate in our mission trip. With my team (Sudhakar Kaligithi, Dr. Satya Jnaneshwari, Roy Prakash Thanukula, Sonia Cherukuri, Melissa Stonehill, Kalpana Dharani, Swaroop Naidu and with manyvolunteers), we were able to visit approximately 85% of our sponsored children. I could not visit the remaining 15% due to the time factor.
With the help of our friends and local Directors in India, we conducted Annual Awards & Rewards ceremonies to our children for their performance at school. These are public meetings attended by the school staff, sponsors, children, their parents, local government executives, social workers, friends and well-wishers. The largest public meeting was conducted at the MVP SDA school grounds in Visakhapatnam, AP, India on January 13th with over 1,200 people. Yandamoori Veerendranth (the famous writer and novelist in Andhra Pradesh, India) was our chief guest. Heinspired our children and for those that secured ranks he awarded them with certificates and cash awards. These types of events have proven to be very successful. Many of our sponsored children are inspired and motivated to do well and to receive these awards. Each year these programs are eagerly received and celebrated by our children and families.
The parents of our sponsored children thanked every sponsor for their support and requested me to conveytheir regards. This year we have identified an additional 500 children who are eligible and cannot go to school without our help. We welcome anyone who would like to become a part of this effort and help make these children a part of your family. It costs only $125 to $175 per year to support a child. (Children waiting for help can be found on the webpage - http://upliftachild.org/children.asp)
Dear Friends, Sponsors & Well wishers,
Uplift a Child International celebrated its 12th year of service to less fortunate children in 2012. During this time 1,500 children have benefited for school education. This was possible only with the help of our 410 dedicated sponsors from around the world (USA, UK, Ukraine, UAE, India, Oman, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia), 70 Volunteers from east to west, and friends from all over along with the help of our Administrative teams and Board of Directors from USA & India.
Each year has been a great year for all of us where we could make a difference with our team work and individual contributions. As the saying goes, “Hard work always pays off at the end” and that is what we are seeing each year with exceptional success. Our time and efforts were never wasted; all we see are great results and that really makes all of us proud! Along with our success, we do have a few failures. Approximately 0.05% of our children are not doing that well in their studies; the same ratio of failure last year. These children are dropping from schools due to family problems. Most of the drop-outs are generally from small towns as the parents are agricultural laborers and they move from place to place if they find a better job. That is impacting our children’s education and future. We do have a lot of plans on how to bring them back but we need more money and time which we don’t have right now. It is our goal to resolve this in the days to come with everyone’s help.
Once again, we left NO child behind for education in 2012. We have a great hope in our future. The moment someone hears about us, they follow us and become a part of us to lead this noble mission. So far we have done well and continue to do so. Our work has been appreciated by thousands all over. In 2013, we will be starting to help children in NEPAL. Thanks to Lok Tiwari of Nepal who observed us and joined our team to coordinate our help to the underprivileged in NEPAL.
A simple thank you is not enough for those who are associated with us and working hard with their time and contribution. Your help is priceless and we cannot measure your love for the little children who cannot help themselves. A smile on their face with gratitude in their eyes is what we see personally. We represent all of you and we carry that message to others on what we believe, and to make a difference while we still have life.
Merry Christmas for those who celebrate and Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year 2013
Dear Sponsors, Friends and Well Wishers
We conducted our annual sponsors meetings in Kiev, Ukraine & New Jersey and Maryland states in USA in 2012. Apart from the sponsors programs, we were also invited by many organizations to represent Uplift a Child International and to present about our work. It is always a celebration for all of us when ever we meet with the sponsors and to share everything. Each time we get together, we are growing with inspiration, dedication, support and friendship. Our sponsors are happy with our work as we updated them with a detailed presentation on each and every aspect of our operations in India and USA. Below are the 3 locations where we had our annual sponsors programs this year.
Uplift a Child – Kiev, UKRAINE on 17th February, 2012
Uplift a Child – New Jersey, USA on 3rd March, 2012
Uplift a Child – Maryland, USA on 12th May, 2012
Uplift a Child, Kiev – UKRAINE
We had our event this year at Himalaya Restaurant in Kiev. We have had sponsors in the Ukraine for five years and this is the first time we hosted a sponsors program with the help of our volunteers and sponsors. This year’s event was hosted and sponsored by the Anuradha & Srinivas Polavarapu family. We are thankful to them for their time and efforts in making this a memorable one.
On February 18th, we were invited by Kasturi & Rajesh Kumar Saraiya to their special event. It was a dinner event to celebrate the success of Mr. Rajesh Kumar Saraiya on his achievement of Presidential Award from Government of India for his contribution to the World. We were given 15 minutes for a presentation of Uplift a Child. It was a very successful event as many of the local Ukrainians joined us to help with the educational support of our children in India. We had a lot of dignitaries there including a lot of business magnets and also the Ambassador of India to the Ukraine.
We are also thankful to the president of the Indian Association in Ukraine, Mr. Sanjeev Bhagat and his team for their willingness to help many children for education as a group. We thank them and welcome them to Uplift a Child to make a difference with our combined efforts. We received commitments of US $25,000 from the programs which can easily support at least 200 children.
Uplift a Child – New Jersey-USA
We had our program in East Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. We are thankful to Vani & Mahesh Dontamsetty for hosting our annual program at their house. They have been sponsors from five years supporting children for education in India. Sponsors from NJ, CT, NY, MD and PA attended our program. It was a 90 minute program with the Dontamsetty family sponsoring and providing delicious food for all. Below are few pictures.
Sri Nidhi is a college student who is also a professional artist. She brought some of her arts and sold them to some of our sponsors there and donated 100% of all her sales that day ($580). Her parents are already our sponsors supporting children for education through our charity.
Bhavana & Abhijit Polavarapu from Kiev, Ukraine donated US $150 plus 100 Ukranian money. They have collected this money from gifts from parents and may be from others. They felt that their money can be better used to support a needy child for education.
We were able to deposit $150 in our bank and could not deposit the 100 Ukranian money which is equivalent to US $12. Parents requested to auction that 100 Ukranian money in our New Jersey Annual program. We had a 5 minutes bidding on that and we did get a highest bidder who paid $350 for that.
The family who took that told us it is not the value of the money but the thought of the child which was very valuable and also they knew that this money will be used to support another child for education. We are thankful to the youngsters who have already realized the difference of privileged and underprivileged and are already thinking of helping others.
Our program was a grand success and every one enjoyed the 90 minutes event and left with great memories. People have come from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Connecticut.
Uplift a Child – Maryland-USA
We had our event this year at Sam Vonumu’s office at the Discovery World Headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland. We are thankful to Discovery for giving us permission to host this event. Our president Ms. Susan Carson started the program with welcoming our guests and providing updates about the finances of 2011 and how they were spent. Rena Vonumu spoke via Skype from Canada and then Ms. Pearl Welch briefed us all on the 2011 summary of our operations in India and about the new developments for 2012. Sam Vonumu then concluded the event with his presentation updating our sponsors and well-wishers about the most recent India visit in January and February. A detailed report is available at http://upliftachild.org/reports/2012IndiaVisit.pdf
We are thankful to the Welch family and Susan Carson for sponsoring snacks for the event. Biryani Pointe in Herndon sponsored us chilli chicken for our event and we are thankful to many volunteers who went out of their way in making our event a successful one.
Thanks to all our sponsors and well-wishers who are very committed each year by sending their contributions towards their sponsored children who are getting an education and building their lives for a better tomorrow. Out of many, we are one people and with our objective we will make a difference to the world.
Our event pictures are posted in facebook. “UpliftaChild” is our Facebook name. Below are the links to the event pictures.

Dear Sponsors and my Friends,
Good afternoon. I just returned back from India recently (Last week of February 2011) on a 5 weeks mission trip for Uplift a Child International. During that time, I spent one week with my family members and the remaining 4 full weeks on our charity work. It was certainly a rewarding experience. I have a detailed report for you in the attachment or simply click on the webpage http://upliftachild.org/2012IndiaVisit.pdf
With my limited vacation time, I was able to accomplish a lot. I wish that more of you join me on these types of trips in the future. It is like a festival time for our children because all our programs are public events with a lot of visitors, government officials and important people who come and recognize our children and congratulate them for their hard work. It is certainly a rewarding experience for one and all and I recommend any one you to visit India during our events time to experience the happiness of our children.
I met most of your sponsored children and will be sending you those pictures in my next email to you individually.
Annual Sponsors Programs
Uplift a Child – Ukraine Annual Sponsors Program: We had our first sponsors program on 17th February, 2012 in Kiev hosted by Mr. & Mrs. Srinivas Polavarapu at Himalaya Restaurant. On the 18th February, we were invited by Sanskriti to present about Uplift a Child. I will be sending a detailed report on sponsors programs soon.
Uplift a Child – New Jersey Annual Sponsors Program: We had a wonderful sponsors program on 3rd March, 2012 at East Brunswick, NJ, USA – Hosted by Mahesh & Vani Dontamsetty at their residence. I will be sending a detailed report on sponsors programs soon.
Uplift a Child – Maryland Annual Sponsors Program: This is scheduled for 12th May, 2012 at 7pm at my office at Discovery World Headquarters Building in Silver Spring, MD, USA. I sent an invitation to most of our sponsors living in the Washington DC metro area. Thanks to those who have already confirmed your attendance. For those who did not get a chance, please email me with your names.
These are wonderful events where you get to see how your money is used towards our children (presentation by Sam & team), get a chance to meet our Board of Directors, meet new people and connect with like-minded people as most of them are sponsors and well-wishers of good work.
This is also a gentle reminder for the existing sponsors to start sending their contribution for this year. This week is the last week for most of our children’s schools in India. The new school year will begin in the first week of June 2012. We are currently working with our local volunteer teams in taking measurements for the children to stitch school uniforms for 1400 children, get their measurements for shoes sizes, plan on buying books, school tie, school belt and other things so that they will have everything by the last week of May and be prepared for school admission in the first week of June 2012. If you are not sure on the amount to send, please email me and I will update you.
Thank you for your support in 2011. I cannot believe that we have 1400 children as of today and they are able to go to school because of our team effort. We are working hard to get new sponsors for the 200 new children this year.
Sam Vonumu’s Initiatives
Even though I’m not a businessman but was able to put my little ideas which will surely create some revenue and I will be donating 100% of everything to Uplift a Child. That way, we will have back up money whenever we did not get enough sponsors.
Websites Business: http://bestwebsites1.com/
Best Websites 1 creates professional and personal websites. We are specialized creating simple websites (less than 10 pages) for a flat rate of $500 ($300 goes for the webmaster and $200 will be donated to Uplift a Child). Now a days, every one like to have their own website and we are specialized to cater to their website needs.
Baby Models: http://www.cutebabymodel.com/
God blessed us with a beautiful girl in 2011. She is very cute. I created a website for her and created a chance for others to add all the cute children’s profiles there for a chance to win a TV ad or a baby model contract. We will be donating 100% of any revenues which may come for our child. If other children get selected through our site and get a contract, we will make sure they donate 50% to Uplift a Child.
Online Maths Tuition: http://maths.upliftachild.org/
We started this business this year. We provide Maths tuition to children who are weak in Mathematics via Skype. We are charging US $200 per month for each student (for a 3 one hour classes a week ). US $100 will go for Maths tutors and administration expenses and the remaining US $100 will be donated directly to Uplift a Child International for which you will be getting a Tax Exemption receipt
Have a nice day
Sam & Rena Vonumu
