This project will equip 50 orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV & AIDS with the tools necessary to start health-nourishing, income-generating, sustainable farms. We will provide these children with crop seedlings, farm equipment, bicycles, rainwater harvesters and business skills to start their farms and renew their livelihood. We plan to ensure the sustainability of this project by using a percentage of the profit from each group of orphans to fund the succeeding groups' tools.
When the debilitating effects of HIV & AIDS spread through a community, families begin to fall apart. Household heads become to ill to work and many children must leave school to help out their families. If the household head dies the pressure put on the children can be too much. Desperate for food and support, these children scramble for casual labor, sell their land and are at high risk to abuse and sexual exploitation.
Kitovu Mobile Aids Organization addresses counseling needs and therapeutic activities. What distinguishes Kitovu Mobile from other organizations is that it provides modern sustainable agricultural training. This project will concentrate on the long-term impact of this training by carefully selecting items to help them implement their training, overcome barriers unique to their economic climate, and begin to sustain food security and generate additional income to provide for basic needs.
By empowering them to be self-supporting, they can stop worrying about their next meal and start building self-confidence and respect. By giving them the ability to provide for their family and others, they can feel a sense of accomplishment and pride and look forward to their future. By ensuring the long-term sustainability of the project through a revolving fund, this project can soon be in the hands of the orphans and not at the mercy of donors!
