By Cora Sayre | Project Leader
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Greetings from Leyte and thank you very much for your kind support. Our coconut replanting project in Leyte is getting a good start with the establishment of a coconut seedling nursery located in the municipality of Albuera. We realize that it is difficult to secure coconut seedlings this time with the destruction of most coconuts. The ones left standing will take so many months yet to bear fruit.
Our approach is to procure coconut nuts in selected areas not so much affected by Typhoon Haiyan and we identify this as the towns of Hilongos, Baybay and Bato in Leyte. We have contacted some locals in the area who we tasked to buy nuts that arre high quality and excellent for seedlings.
Aside from producing the coconut seedlings, we are also producing organic fertilizer and biochar that we will distribute to farmers who are re-planting their areas with coconuts and other fruit and timber trees.
Hoping for more support from you and your colleagues.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
