Providing 20 female entrepreneurs from marginalized communities in Lebanon and Palestine with training in the business and personal skills required to launch and sustain a commercial enterprise will empower themselves and their families to break the cycle of poverty, further advancing the role of women in their communities.
Women in Lebanon and Palestine have made progress gaining more equal access to education, but not yet gained more access to work outside the home. Many possess education, motivation, and basic skills; however, they need the CONCRETE SUPPORT AND TOOLS to make their participation in the workforce possible.
This project is increasing women's participation in the labor force and promoting economic empowerment by offering tailor-made training and mentoring to increase participants' business and practical skills as well as self-confidence. TYO's approach adapts participant's traditional skills, such as olive oil, pickling, and soap, to design business plans that reflect international expertise and market research to ensure their competitiveness in the marketplace.
Over the life of the project, 60 women - 20 business leaders and approximately 40 craftswomen and working women with talent, economic need, and the qualifications necessary to staff the businesses - will be engaged directly and 500 family members will be reached indirectly.
