Playworks is the only non-profit nationally that places a full-time, trained coach at elementary schools to increase physical activity, reduce chaos on the playground, teach social emotional learning through play, and give kids a safe and inclusive place to play so they can go back into the classroom ready to learn. All funds from this project will go to support our programs in 9 partner elementary schools in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Join the movement for PLAY!
Kids are not coming to school with the tools and skills to play together and be physically active successfully. Whether it is because their neighborhoods aren't safe to play outside or they self-exclude due to bullying or ability differences they need a space where they can feel safe, included and respected.
This year Playworks is serving over 4,000 students in elementary schools in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Every day we provide play and physical activity programming to nine partner elementary schools, making recess a safe and inclusive environment for kids. Through our programs teachers are regaining 24 hours per year in teaching time that was previously lost to debriefing conflicts and scraps from the recess period.
Playworks is a social change initiative. It is our vision that one day every child will have an opportunity to experience safe, inclusive play everyday. To do that we need to get adults, teachers, parents, companies and politicians playing. The importance of daily recess for students can transform school culture to a place where kids are making friends, being active, resolving conflicts on their own, and being respectful.
