Provide up to 50 water purification and disinfection systems for immediate tsunami relief and for long-term rebuilding efforts in Sri Lanka.
Roughly 604,000 displaced survivors are being housed in temporary camps or shelters. Clean, safe drinking water is in short supply, and is being provided via unsustainable measures. Water purification and disinfection systems are needed to address both immediate and long-term needs of the survivors.
WaterHealth International (WHI) is working with Sri Lankan partners to install 50 water purification systems for tsunami reconstruction efforts in hospitals, schools and relief settlements.
50 schools, hospitals, and tsunami camps will be able to provide safe drinking water, often for the first time. Waterborne disease in tsunami-devastated areas will be reduced and the health of children and patients will be significantly improved.
