Summary
CARE's staff in Sri Lanka are providing basic needs for victims of the tsunami.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Sri Lanka took a direct hit from quake-generated waves. More than 24,000 lives were cut short by the tsunami, and at least 750,000 people were left homeless. Survivors beyond count are traumatized.
How will this project solve this problem?
CARE’s long-term presence means our staff were able to respond in the earliest moments of crisis. We are providing basic food, clean water, clothes and bedding materials in the hardest hit districts.
Potential Long Term Impact
Survival of victims; basic shelter and needs met; prevention of worst of water-borne diseases.
Project Message
