These beautiful horses never cease to amaze me! They are patient, trusting and loving creatures who are eager to please.  It takes a little time to reprogram them out of the racing mode, but once they get it, they are fun to work with, love the attention and make wonderful riding horses!  We are so thankful for every donation that comes in to help with the expense of caring for and retraining these animals.  Our work would not be possible without the support of people like you who truly care about these horses and we so appreciate every dollar that comes in.  Please know that our doors are always open for visits from our supporters and we are always in need of volunteers!

We currently have 5 retired standardbreds in our care that are available for adoption.  They are all doing very well in their training and are now ready to find their forever homes!

The horses that come to us from the racetrack are very familiar with human contact and are used to being handled everyday which is a good start for retraining and adoption, however, they are trained to be very fast and to only use their racing gait. In order for them to be adoptable, they need to learn to be ridden under saddle and to relax. This process takes a lot of reconditioning from experienced handlers and is not a fast process.

We are proud to report that the TROTTER program is gaining popularity with both the harness industry and the pleasure horse world! Every week we have people coming in to ask questions and want to learn more about the adoption process, and this year alone, we have already had 6 horses placed with adoptive homes!

In addition to helping the horses, we have wrapped our therapeutic program around these horses and are working with children in foster care with amazing results! The horses are teaching such qualities as responsibility, respect, dependability, self worth and improved social skills.

This program would not be possible without the generous support of our donors and we sincerely appreciate every dollar that comes in!  THANK YOU to everyone who supports TROTTER and please come out for a visit whenever you are in the area, we would love to meet you!

Racehorses all too often fall victim to unknown futures once their racing careers end.  The T.R.O.T.T.E.R. Program at Riding Star Ranch is a place where these horses are loved, rehabilitated, re-trained and given a second chance in life.

Upon arrival, each horse is evaluated for emotional and physical health and training goals are set according to their personality, age and any physical limitations they may have.  We currently have retired Standardbreds in training for pleasure driving, trail riding, trick riding, roman riding, team driving, dinner show acts and for therapy animals.

The fininsh line is just the beginning for these beautiful animals.  They are kind hearted, loyal, patient and love human interaction.  The cost of caring for one horse averages about $3,600 annually, but can be more if they have injuries that need medical care or therapy. We rely on generous, caring people like you to help us make it all possible.

The T.R.O.T.T.E.R. program is making huge strides in helping these animals find safe & happy forever homes and we are so thankful for each and every donor who supports this program.  We would like to invite each and every one of you to come to the ranch for a visit to watch a training session and meet these beautiful animals in person.  You can reach us at 386-848-7953 or 386-848-1242.
