Provide affordable, world-class treatment for newborns with severe jaundice in India who otherwise would not receive effective treatment.
Severe jaundice affects 12% of newborns and is the number one reason why babies are admitted to hospitals. Without timely treatment, it can lead to brain damage or death. The Stanford University School of Medicine estimates that 5.4M babies worldwide are not receiving effective treatment for jaundice annually. Treating the condition, however, is simple—it requires shining blue light on the baby's skin. This project will bring affordable, effective treatment technology to newborns in India.
Utilizing blue LED technology, Brilliance is a world-class phototherapy device that allows both rural and urban hospitals in the developing world to provide highly effective jaundice treatment at an affordable cost.
The Brilliance project will treat 1.7 million babies with jaundice by 2016. Your donation assists D-Rev and our partners in bringing Brilliance to as many newborns that need treatment as possible—saving lives and avoiding life long disabilities.
