Summary
This project provides a one month supply of the nutritional supplement- Supplementary'Plumpy® - for 500 children in Haiti to prevent the worst effects of malnutrition.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In Haiti, 46% of the total population is undernourished. The situation was significantly worsened by the earthquake this year when over 2,000,000 were in need of food (World Food Programme). Supplementary'Plumpy® helps the most vulnerable -- women and children -- to meet their nutritional needs. One packet a day helps reverse the terrible effects of malnutrition and promotes health and development -- a crucial part to rebuilding a nation destroyed by natural disaster.
How will this project solve this problem?
Supplementary'Plumpy® is a Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food (RUSF) that treats Moderate Acute Malnutrition. Made from peanuts, whey, soy protein and essential vitamins and minerals, it prevents children from suffering the effects of malnutrition.
Potential Long Term Impact
Meeting nutritional needs of 500 children at this critical time means that not only are lives being saved today but they are strengthened to be more healthy and productive. A long term impact from a small packet.
Project Message
Proper nutrition makes all the difference in a child’s health and well-being.I have seen first-hand the huge impact that Supplementary'Plumpy®, a product kids love, can have to ward off malnutrition.
