Dear Friend of Wildlife,
This is a gentle reminder that your continued financial support is extremely important to us as we strive to maintain our quality of care and remain true to our mission 365 days of the year: to staff a Wildlife Information & Assistance Hotline, medically treat and provide sanctuary for sick and injured wild animals, participate in important research, and promote respect for wildlife and habitats through quality public programs with our live animal ambassadors.
A normal winter day at the Center for Wildlife keeps staff and volunteers busy with a variety of cases like the following:
- A porcupine debilitated by a fungal infection requires sedation and skin-cleaning
- A red-tailed hawk, who sustained muscle damage to her wing when she became entangled in the grill of a truck while hunting in the road, requires physical therapy so she can regain full use of the injured wing.
- An American goldfinch who contracted conjunctivitis – a highly contagious infection often passed between birds at bird feeders that are not regularly cleaned – requires food, medication, and daily monitoring.
- A barred owl hit by a car has fractured a wing, which must be stabilized, wrapped, and monitored.
These patients and hundreds more come through our doors throughout the year, brought in by sympathetic members of the public who look to the Center for Wildlife as the only facility in southern Maine equipped to give these animals the specialized medical care and housing they require through sometimes long recovery periods. We give each patient our attention and care, in hopes of eventually releasing them as strong and successful members of the wild population.
CFW depends on our supporters for the many resources required to treat our patients. CFW receives no tax dollars, and our work would not be possible without your support! The Center continues to exist absolutely because of your kindness and enduring commitment. Thank you for your generosity.
